Converted my 2000 x1 from f1 to 42 mukuni and twin tech ign.. Couldn't be happier!!! Bike was giving me problems and spent $200 on can timing censor and tps censor, no luck!! Spent the $850 and bike runs awesome!!!!! No more wondering if its gonna act up!!! Can now leave town with it!!!! So dam happy I made the switch!! Would recommend it to anyone else that's having trouble with their fuel injection!!! Runs much much better. It now rips!! Ninja eater!!!! Been 140mph with at least 20 more mph to go? At 120 mpg she starts to pull like a beast!!

Did you buy a kit? What all did you change? Just had a issue with mine and found it to be the AFV. Would also like to go on longer trips without having to worry about something going wrong.

What kind of mileage are you getting? I got 50 mpg with my SU but it dropped to 43 when I changed to a Mikuni 42mm.

Bought a kit!!! F1's are fine as long as they stay trouble free? But just a matter of time b4 some dumb ass switch decides to act up? And who wants the hassle of tunning every weather change?? My bike now runs and goes Much much better now that I went to carb! Can now go anywhere without any worries!!! No more just around town!!!! If your r1 is giving you a headache? Convert and go trouble free!!! Easy to do yourself!!!!

What kind of ignition did you choose?

I'm keeping mental notes as my X1 is getting on in years. Still running like a top for now though.

Dmac: pull the bulb or the wire from the engine light. I bought a pre-FI tach. The petcock goes at the lowest point of the gas tank, in front of the battery and behind the rear head.

Never had issue with eng light staying on! Put in a twin tech ign wth a mikuni Hs42 carb. Used a new roller bearing petcock in fuel pump outlet hole and used a bung for other hole!! No leaks! Did the conversion myself!! Easy peasy lemon squesy!! Little tough reaching in gas tank to nut intank side of petcock tho!! Can be done tho!!! Bike WAS giving me a headache but wth carb convsion, all that stuff is over!!! Can now ride worry free, plus bike goes so much better!!! Super strong and pulls like no tomorrow! So glad I made the change!!!! If anyone's x1 is giving them a headache and you want to sell it? Don't. Convert to twin tech ign and mikuni hs42 carb! You won't regret it I promise!!!!!!! Ride on dudes!!

Sounds like it runs great for you now. I still love my hopped up X1 And my 1st gen zx10r.
Id be really curious to see what your bike does on a dyno. There is no way it has more power than the FI model. How do you think they were making over a 100+ hp from the factory (wonder how much hp you actually lost?). And i don't know what ninja's your eating but the x1 does about 60-62 in 1st
A stock 600 cc ninja 0-60 is 3.2 sec.
A stock 1200 cc buell x1 0-60 is 3.9 sec.
A stock X1 5 speed with the belt drive depending on your weight is usually around 143 mph.
A stock ninja 600 cc year 2000-2010 is 166 mph!

These X1 are awesome and i wont ever sell mine.......but they don't eat any ninja's sorry man! Maybe the new little 3XXcc

you pick! Time to hit the track! meet you there!!

This was my 1st bike when i was 16.

Russ, they made pretty much the same power, carb or fuel injected. Making over 100 HP is easy when it's measured at the crank like the factory did. These bikes at their best put out 80-85 HP at the wheels. Heck my Ulysses put out 76 RWHP when I got it (it's now over 100, will be more once I get it put back together tomorrow).

Our Old School 99 CF Bike made 87 at the rear wheel back in the day.

With the Power Commander and much dyno time we were able to just top 101 RWHP.

Newer injectors and better fuel maps and dyno time should generate in the 110 range.

Just our $.02 worth. FWIT, all numbers were on the same dyno and corrected for temperature, atmospheric pressure and humidity.

Having run a NASCAR Chassis Dyno for 5 seasons, I made certain that all the numbers and calibrations on the bike dyno were "SPOT" on.

At this kind of age FI cleaning by RC fuel injection is a must. New gaskets all around intake. New FI gaskets, new o2 Sensor and Air temp sensor wouldnt hurt either and last is the timing sensor,im still running original on mine but plan to replace if I get in there. Still on mine and my motor is screaming at 125 MPH runs great on a race ecm and wiley co muffler. Timing at the left of inspection hole, TPS, intake gaskets, engine temp sensor and all some very important things that can screw with you and your bike.

Sorry but my eyes roll when I see people bitching about the FI. There are sensors to worry about and gaskets to worry about. A carb doesnt cure the intake gasket leaks so come on. You are still working around the intake. Learn how to adjust a tps, check the head temp sensor properly, etc.

Now after 30k I finally get a major thing to repair on my X1. Crank seal and new clutch. I dont just leave town I leave the state and 2 hours on the road is nothing for me. JUST SAYING.

The only lure for me on a carb is the accelerator pump and I do plan on messing around with that soon in ECM Spy . I know it can be turned up some.

A 10,000 rpm engine has longer legs.
when sporty shifts he is still holding that gear for quite a while longer...

my 96s1 and my 09cr, two different beasts.
