So I recently got a TWIN motorcycles rear shock for my S3T (old shock started leaking). The service manual and TWIN's site say to torque the bolts only at the bolt. If I don't hold the nut on the other side, it just spins and I can't get anywhere near the required torque. Also, applying any more torque than that which is necessary to run the nut to touching the mounting tabs will squeeze the shock. The result is suspension stiction and an awful noise when the shock is doing its thing. I tested this by installing only one side of the shock and attempting to rotate it. Tightening the bolt while using only my fingers to hold the nut stationary squeezes the shock enough to make rotation difficult. Procedure was performed at both bolts with the same result. Is the best way to mount a rear shock to just run the nut in with some Loctite and not worry about torquing it? |
