Ok, has anybody figured out how to keep the dash lights in when the 4 black little grabby things don't grab?

nothin to zip tie it to... not without drilling a whole in the dash (for lack of a better term for it)

seems like there should have been some sort of cap over the back of the sockets.

I found a tiny crack in the piece that holds the bulbs. It gives it just enough weakness that it won't stay "in" the piece that actually holds the whole deal together. Silicone rescue tape will have to do.
