I decided it was time to replace the oil pump drive gear on my 98 S1W (38k miles)... and quickly headed down the rabbit hole of project creep..

As long as I was in there I decided to check a few thing to stop some leaks and weeps and ended up with the following..

New oil pump drive gear
Zippers collapsible push rod tube assemblies and billet bases

Then went after the weeps/leaks

New oil pump gasket
Silicone the stator plug
Pull the starter and put a new gasket in - it was definitely leaking under the starter..
Replace the main shaft seal (that job sucked!! first time, guess it's a "right of passage"...had a seal puller and all I managed to do was uncurl the lip all the way around..ended up drilling two very small holes and inserting two machine screws and pulling with pliers)
Inspect rotor - found a broken magnet - Replace rotor with new upgraded 10 bolt
As long as I am in there - replace stator with brand new one...uhm because the original was now 17 yrs old ??

The primary cover was pretty rough from previous owners "abuse" so had the primary cover and cam cover powder-coated black magic as long as they were removed....so new shift shaft bushing and seal, new cam cover #2 cam seal

Bike already has:
XB style rocker box covers and catch can
Billet front motor mount
Upgraded primary chain tensioner
upgraded front muffler mount

and in the middle of this project another bike found it's way "home".....2002 Moto Guzzi V11 LeMans

And then you found some light scoring the cylinders, so you decided it needs an NRHS 1250 kit to "bring it up to snuff", right? :P

I know the feeling......I just finally got my S1 all back together yesterday morning.

I put on XB covers, upgraded the tensioner, oil pump drive gear, shift detent plate, front exhaust mount, replaced all the gaskets/seals I could get at, new tires, wired up my GPS, and ran a line to electrify my tank bag.

I took it out for a quick 5 min run and everything seemed to be great. So I decided to go for a nice long ride and found out the hard way that I have a horrible oil leak from the front rocker cover (I think the gasket bunched up and pinched). I ended up with a 75 mile ride and a right leg completely soaked in oil. On the bright side, it ran great and nothing from the carburetor back will rust anytime soon
