I wanted a different shape than most cuts. I always liked the S&S cam covers; I think they look beefy and muscular. But I don't want to pay $500 for one. So I gave mine a similar angle cut at the rear. I may try and play with the contours on the face as well but there isn't a lot of material to do so.

I already had mine off so it took about 5 mins on the band saw and a few more with a belt sander.

The later covers lack the hole, don't they?

Yeah, my understanding is that only '91-'99 have the hole that needs plugged, but I could be mistaken.

I'm pretty sure my cover won't have a hole. We'll see when I get it back.

Can someone take a pic of this "hole" that needs plugged? I was staring at the cam cover from my '98 S1 (currently sitting on my work bench), and I can't seem to see any place that would breach inside the housing if I would cut it like the pics above. Just curious if I'm missing something or if mine is new enough not to have it? Is it the hole I see in the 2nd pic above, just to the left of the wrenches? If so, my '98 doesn't have that.

My understanding is that on older models there was an oiling track that could utilize that port but it was covered with a knockout that gets city off during the cover trimming process. The result is a hole that most tap and screw a bolt into.

The cover was updated rather than using the older cover.

If I'm all wet, my apologies.

you are correct FT. If you send your cover to NRHS for the cutdown svc we take care of the hole if needed by drilling and tapping it and then including the proper size bolt.
