Ok I know there are threads in the search but just want to put this out there. I have a 98 S1W that has thunderstorm heads with like a superstock/mild type porting. Port work was already done when I bought the bike. Porting was done by Lee's speed shop in Minnesota. comp cam springs Beehive™ Valve Springs: Top 1.185" O.D., .731" I.D.; Bottom 1.454" O.D., 1.000" I.D., nominal seat pressure 170lbs, max valve lift is .600,73cc nominal chamber volume of head. The cams the guy put in this bike are Andrews N8 cams. The bike runs good but I think I can get better numbers with a different cam. Right now I have the SS2R muffler on the bike. Changing to a Drummer SS this week. What cam should give better numbers throughout the powerband? SE 536, NRHS cat 3? Impact 560? or do I just keep what I have. May not do anything just want opinions from the masses. Iam dyno tuning the bike this week and thinking about changing the cam. Oh I also have a mikuni 42 on it and a dyna 2000 ignition.

Are those valves 5/16" or 7mm? Just curious. I don't know the numbers, but looking at the dyno results for those various cams, I think the CAT3 and the 560's are going to be very similar, with the SEs just a hair behind. I'm by no means a cam expert though.

You'll see an improvement just from dumping the V&H. Do that first, leave the rest alone, and see where your numbers and riding feel are.

Do you want a peak HP number? Or a rideable motorcycle? That question is all the more reason not to make a bunch of changes at one time. Swap mufflers, jet properly, and test it / ride it, and see how it feels to you.

Joe iam going to put the drummer on and dyno tune. Well first gonna do a pull with the V&H. Then do the drummer and tune. I may play with a different set of cams though after that. Was thinking 536 SE if I can find them or the NRHS Cat 3's. Wonder what the power curve difference will be? I want strong numbers throughout the rev range.

Jef my friend has a S1 street bike he takes to drags here in Australia.
never had it on Dyno but at the track (1/4 mile ) he has ran 10.9 @ 122mph its a 1200, stock wheel base no wheelie bar rides to the track. CV44 carb Buell race pipe belt drive.
he was saying he has SE 536 but did not like them went with Andrews n80
i'm going to try some N80 myself as have same heads as him set up by same guy, but i have more comp thats why i'm going N80 to get cranking pressure down.
he said N80 pulled good from 3,000 i have always ridden 3,000 & up.
i go to the track like him look at the trap speed that tell's me how much HP the ET just tells me if i can ride like quick sixty foot is king.
lets know how you go what you go with i have N6 now & it's great i like it better than the N4 but my cranking pressure still too high i add VP C16 to my pump gas that is 98 octain
