Starting a new thread as to not hijack another and answer a few questions. I only have experience with the M2 and Blast but both had plastic fairings. Cracked the rear fairing on my M2 pretty bad under the seat so I searched online for some ways to repair. Tools needed: * Well ventilated area as the vapors are harsh on melted plastic. * Plastic or metal container to hold the spare plastic to be melted. * Solder iron (flat blade end if possible) * ABS plastic (legos work or pipe from hardware store) * Acetone to melt the plastic. * Dremel and/or sand paper, and files (round or flat depending on which parts) Video is worth a 100 words, at least: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_0ge01X5jI (not mine but thanks to the guy that posted it) The idea is to melt/weld the plastic where it is cracked, which creates a strong bond. In my case, a piece chipped off so I used the melted legos to fill in the area, re-drill the holes for the mounting bolts, and left unpainted as the yellow legos matched the factory pain enough when it is hidden under the seat anyway. Appears to be just as strong as the original. If not, I will just redo it, especially since most of these crack in the same spots anyway. You can also melt small spots, similar to tack welding, to help hold things in place, then finish the welding when everything is lined up. I did add some thin, wide metal washers to help distribute some of the load when the bike is shaking at idle. | ||

www.partsexpress.com has sheets of black ABS in different thicknesses. And then normal uteys (or whatever) PVC plumbing "glue" will work great for it. I don't know if the M2 plastics are ABS though. My M2 is long gone (sniff), but I thought it was mostly fiberglass and carbon fiber plastics. |
