Hey Steve, bike turned out perfectly! lots of fun to ride!! love the s3 thunderstorm motor and I did leave the bigger front pulley for lower RPMs at highway speed. I ended up using the Toyota Racing Blue body work while I wait on matching a black saphire set...  had to make a grocery run last night...40 degrees out, warm enough for a quick jaunt since it was a small list!  Thanks for your help!!!! | ||

That turned out nice. Once that motor gets wound up they kind of feel like they're unstoppable, don't they? No problem with the motor swap, it was a good diversion while Lynda was in the hospital. | ||

S3 bags on an S2 with the conversion rack that was made available for a while. Yeah its really a great bike, should have bought an S2 a lot sooner!!! These are a lot of fun to ride and have great character and personality, just beautiful to look at and ride! | ||

Phelan's right, I sent the header off to Jet-Hot Jet Coating and had it ceramic coated, it the 4th or 5th one I have had them do for the bikes and they always do a great job, I am always impressed! The heat guard has been powder-coated a semi gloss color called "Black Magic", I've also done this to all my other buells. this bike was a complete mess when I bought it, it now has different forks, different motor, different wheels, different body..... complete build under "My S2 project". http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/disc us.cgi?pg=next&topic=47623&page=734399 Steve drove down and helped me swap motors, it can be a two person job and I didn't have any local "qualified(?)" help, so he volunteered to come down and help. I read the build thread, very neat. Do you have any close ups of the exhaust? Do you need to leave it bare where the muffler slips on? | ||

you do not need to leave the exhaust bare at the mating point of the header to the muffler, since its a slip-fit fitting (muffler to header) with the clamp, I have had no issues on any of the header systems I have done. On this particular bike I even had the supertrap megaphone muffler ceramic coated (it was in pretty rough shape when I received it). I will try and get some photos of the exhaust tonight when I get home from work. | ||

No problem, it was a fun day. I think it was Super Bowl Sunday but I could be mistaken. How did that front isolator work out? Mine buzzed like crazy until I had a spacer machined up by a buddy of mine. That cured it. The excessive vibrations might also be from the V&H canister but with an S1W header there's not a whole lot of options nowadays. Did you go with a different ignition module? I settled on one of the Buell race ones (has a lightning bolt on it to prove that it's racy). It definitely accelerates a lot better with the race module - it goes like hell, actually! | ||

Since the motor was a thunderstorm motor I used the ignition module that came with the motor, (I've got a race module that has an 8K RPM limit I could use if I remember to watch the RPMs closely, though honestly, I haven't bounced the rev limiter on a bike in a long time...) I did leave the 29 tooth front sprocket on it though. I have a 27, but decided to try it with the 29 and I am pretty happy with it for the long haul. I've got no "un-normal" vibrations with the front isolator but I will continue to watch it and remember that if anything does show up that should be added to the list of things to check. | ||

How was the mounting hardware made to mount the 3 bags on the 2? I have a 3T and a 2; it would be awesome if I could just use my 3 bags on my 2. I have access to a great fabricator and can probs copy the hardware off my 3, but there would have to be some differences due to the tail sub-frame being different. Anyone have diagrams, measurements, etc? Thanks. | ||

Stacey, I believe the S3 bag conversion rack, which Buell sold for a little while, used the stock S3 mounting hardware. I could be wrong though. | ||

On Jolly's s2 above, the mounting brackets don't look stock or at least like those on my s3. Are they part of the Buell conversion, aftermarket, or specially fabricated? | ||

The rack that Dave has is a Buell S3 rack made by Buell to retrofit onto the S2. I have one and have not mounted it yet so not sure what hardware attaches it. | ||

The brackets were made by Buell for S2s only, to fit S3 bags on S2s, since the S2 bags kinda suck.. | ||

The rack is still available, Buell part number L1025.8 it is a one piece rack that allows you to hang S3 bags directly to the rack, no conversion to the rack or bags required. it mounts to the S2 exactly as the S2 bag rack does at exactly the same point with only one difference, it has leg lowers that mount to the passenger peg points on the side plates with the passenger peg clevis and bolt so no impact to ability to have passenger pegs. it mounts under the seat to the tail sub frame at the same points that the tail mounts to the sub frame, the rear of the rack is held in place at the back of the tail sub frame loop with two rubber/metal strap hangars, exactly as the stock S2T bag rack mounts. I had a broken tab on the frame so I had metal tabs welded to the back of the frame loop when I had the other tab replaced. The S3T rack is a two piece rack with the bumper mount being a separate part of the system than the rack mount system, on the conversion rack for the S2, its all incorporated into a single unit. installed on the bike  | ||
