This the first bike I have had with a kickstand safety switch, I have read many responses to "Bypass" this safety switch. As a permanent solution I think this is not safe. For trouble shooting it is OK. Here is an example of what might happen with switch "Bypassed" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mQ-5mWNOLo

thank you. it wouldn't be there if there weren't a good reason. the clutch safety switch is a good idea, too

What does this have to do with the kickstand switch he endoed? If the kickstand came down it would have sent him sideways right?
Still not a good situation hope he was ok

Here is a copy of Youtube video "Assfault Junkies" heading north out of Mt Olivet. This road ends at Hwy 19 Where they stop and wait, (She puts down her kickstand).

The BIGGEST mistake She made, was grabbing a full handful of front brake. I would have grabbed a handful of throttle....and try to "MX" it, across the ditch.
Just a matter of riding experience. Better to ALWAY'S remember your side stand position!!

Keeristmas. Does anyone remember when you did not have a kickstand safety switch. Do you need a safety switch for everything you do? I say bring back the stationwagons that had the back windows that rolled down and all of us kids could sit in the back with our hands waving out the back. Sure it is nice to have the AUTO windows in our new cars but I still like to ride in my Jeep and un zip my window if I need air. My old Harley did not need THE SWITCH.

Home when the street lohts came on , riding 3 wheeled atc without cut off switches how did we live through it.

Seriously though hope she was ok. But leaving the kickstand down is one of two things inexpierience or lack of training. I went down two years ago, gravel high, winds and off camber turn but guess what it was 100 percent avoidable and I have since been trained to see the signs and how to ride through them.
I watched that second vid also not that smart of a rider with the camera crossing double yellow lines on a blind corner while passing other riders is the video that important?

The only point I was trying to make was that safety devices are put on a machine for a reason. I know that you can't "Fix Stupid". I to wonder how we made it with out child car seats and climbing around dad's 1967 Ford station wagon unrestrained.

they are put on machines to protect the new and inexperienced who often learn through an "event" (I know I did on a few along the way) but ultimately safety devices are put on bikes, cars, tools etc, by the government to protect us from ourselves....

If the safety switch was fail-proof or more reliable I wouldn't care, but when it does fail, I jump past it and don't replace it, but I don't go out of my way as a practice to automatically bypass it.

After replacing 2 and rolling off with the stand down, the best thing is IMHO make it a part of the drill stand up check that its up with your foot. most stand down incidents don't result in endos, just a jolt noise and some embarrassment.

I wish we had a self canceling turn signal setup

Wish there was a safety switch on the fork lock. That'll put you onto the ground faster than a forgotten kickstand. Happened to me at Daytona in 2001, with Eric sitting at a table not twelve feet away. Suggested it to him and he said the idea was "brilliant", but somehow never got onto production bikes.

I think is has more to do with successful lawsuits than logic.

Erik, curse the spelling gremlin. He was buying dinner at the steak house for anyone who showed a Buell key at the door.

PS I thought the music on the second video was cool, and texted my daughter... she said that she has been listening to them for the past 8 years,,,

Pull clutch.
Start engine.
Retract sidestand.
Put in gear.
Ride.
Grin.

If you cant remember the basics of riding a motorcycle maybe a trike is a better fit
Safety items like this are in place because of people that dont want to take responsibility for their actions and hired lawyers to settle things.

I actually prefer a reminder to tell me the side stand is up when the bike is off... live and learn.

I bypassed them all.
No problem for the last 12 years.
What is not on the bike, can't make any problems.
My Sporty never had such safety things, why does the Buell?
Are Buell riders more stupid?
I don't think so.
