I'm not sure that's entirely true.. Both parts (74402-95B and 74431-01B) are still active, and one does not supersede the other. They might be the same electrically, I'm not sure. The actual sensor looks the same externally. But the 74402-95B wire is about 6 inches longer, and it comes with the clip mount on the black deutsch connector. The 74431-01B wire is shorter and has a grey deutsch connector. They cost about the same, so there's really no reason at this time to buy the wrong part. Maybe in the future there might be. http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/17188 http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/17165 Al |

IMHO, the latest part number 74431-01B would be the one to get !!! |

Hi Al, electrical there the same, cable length can be overcome but we are on the lookout for alternative replacement parts , your also aware HD is slacking at the moment , for instance the TPS sensor obsolete ( 2008-up ) ect. ridiculous price raises the list price for the original Speed sensors is about 2x this amount for the replacement sensor over here and we see a growing number of people who are looking for budget replacement parts, I need to agree the 74431-01B sensor the more price is quality, material used for the cable kind regards, Twin Motorcycles |

How much are they now? Somebody here sourced the semiconductor necessary to rebuild an old one, I think I even have a couple on a shelf somewhere they sent me. It isn't rocket science, just some drilling, soldering, and JB Weld to pot it. Probably $15 in hardware and 30 minutes to rebuild one. |
