Hi.. Purchased a Buell frame about 10 years ago. I originally thought it was for an S1 Lightening but now that I have checked the VIN, ( starting a new project) I am unsure what it is. The VIN starts with 4MZYS11J5W. It has a APR/98 manufactured date. Its the YS part I can't work out. SS is S1 Lightening, KS is M2 Cyclone and so on, but what is YS?

The VIN starts with 4MZSS for an S1 and 4MZYS for S1W

Thank for that. Was a bit worried it may have been some sort of odd ball frame as the previous owner had started to turn it into a race bike. He'd cut the passenger mounts and seat unit off and added the front frame brace. Have had the seat unit welded back on and just need to sort out a side stand mount. It will never be original but it WILL be an S1 Buell again.

Just a quick follow up.

1. Is there a resource to check the build sheet if I have the vin? That is, the original color, build date etc.

2. What is the prefix for an S3T as opposed to an S3?

Thanks!

Mike

My '97-'98 S3/S3T parts book says:

FS = S3T
RS = S3

It would be AWESOME if such a resource existed for the first question,

Any H-D dealership can do a vehicle inquiry on h-dnet using your VIN to get the build data, original registration, warranty history etc. This still works for Buells as of this week.

S3 = 4MZRS11JXW3xxxxxx

S3T = 4MZFS11J3W3xxxxxx

S3-Cal = 4MZRS56JXW3xxxxxx

S3T - Cal = 4MZFS56J4W3xxxxxx
