My s1 leaks oil from the tranny breather. After reading some other posts I suspected the crank seal but when i removed the primary inspection cover oil did not over flow like i expected, in fact the level was a little low. I drained the primary and the oil came out dark brown. Any ideas? Could it still be the crank seal even though the tranny is not over filling?

Yes the oil can be being pulled in to the engine.

If the MOTOR SPROCKET OIL SEAL is bad it will pass oil into the transmission, it will also pass it back into the engine ...

That is why "i" recommend running HARLEY-DAVIDSON SYN3 20W50 in a street BUELL ...

FOR "SAFETY" THE TRANSMISSION BREATHER SHOULD BE RUN TO A CATCH CONTAINER AND YOU WILL APPRECIATE THIS IS YOU EVER GET OIL ON YOUR REAR TIRE ...

Change your transmission oil every 5K miles !!!

Mine did the exact same thing. I changed the crank seal and cured it.

When the crank seal goes, the pressure blows the transmission fluid out the breather. Careful, it can oil down the rear tire, making for an interesting 360 donut on an M2 in front of a wide eyed neighbor when trying to limp home.
