Hi, I'm new here... a couple of questions.. Anyone ever do a 6 speed gearbox conversion in an S3 Bolt? It really could use another gear! Also, I live in the NE, Syracuse area.. Anyone know of a shop or individual that would do a mild resto on my Bolt? I would like the frame powdercoated , a color change and the 6 speed gearbox if that's possible? Thanks!!

The 6 speed is about $2500 on its own not including installation. Only Baker makes one. You have to cut some clearance inside the casing to fit it and I believe you have to pull the 5th gear as well. Gears 1-4 come out with the trap door. That part is very straight forward. You have to pull the primary first of course.

Take the OEM 27 tooth counter shaft sprocket off and put on a 29 tooth counter(increase of 2 teeth) shaft sprocket(HARLEY-DAVIDSON PN 40205-95), problem solved ...

I have a 29 tooth sprocket on a 98S3T sitting in my 95 S2. it also has a 2 inch exhaust header for the S2 muffler (supertrap external disc mega phone) its really a great combination for lowering the RPM. I recently did a 400 mile weekend on the bike and I was getting about 52MPG on my last fill up. I think the RPM drop was about 300-400 at 80 in top gear.(memory could be off..I could test it though, could take my 98S1W out, hit 80, come home and grab the S2 and repeat....)

Another way is to put a XB12 motor sprocket PN 40290-04 on ...

Of course you have to get a new primary CHAIN PN 40147-04 ...

The OEM motor sprocket is 35T and the XB12 motor sprocket is 38T for a increase of three(3) teeth ...

Thanks guys... I'm thinkin the sprocket is the way to go here...as opposed to 2500 dollars for the extra gear. I didn't pay much more than that for the bike!
