I picked up a manta tank for my s1w that had been stored for a long time without the cap or base in it. I recently sourced a cap for it and the base is too big to fit into the tank by about .100". The bolt circle on the base is also about .100" bigger. Is it possible that the tank shrunk over time? I'm pretty sure all the tubers use the same gas cap. Any insight is appreciated

CORRECT! Well, 2 different manufacturers, but 'same' as 'same' can be. Interchangeable would probably be the best descriptor.

Is it possible that the tank shrunk over time?

That's where my money would lay - from my own personal observations.

Just for increasing my own personal knowledge, does the tank have the brass threaded pieces for the fuel cap mounting ring screws, or do the screws just go into black plastic?

On a used tank (that has had gas in it) I would minimize the time without the fuel cap mounting ring being in place (and I'll have to remind myself of that when I get a tank painted for my Defender...)

My own personal experience - other may have had different,

Thanks for your response. Yes it has the brass inserts, i believe the tank came from a 99 cyclone. Any ideas on how to install the cap?

You need to put gas in the tank and put it in the sun for an hour or so then it will go on. I had the same issue the tank just needs to expand.
