Hey guys, I have a lot of minor oil leaks all over my top end. i think its time to invest in a top end gasket kit and replace them all. does any one have any advise on the best way of going about this? Or perhaps know where i can get a cheap service manual? I'm on a strict budget and its my daily commuter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! | ||

esteban, American Sport Bike has the manuals try to locate all of your leaks and have the gaskets and seals in hand. presuming no other issues pop up its a very long weekend job. personally, I would pull the jugs and leave the pistons on the rods, protecting the rings clean every thing up real well and if you can take your time on re-assemble good luck. | ||

Putting my pride to do everything myself aside would this be something that would be best handled by taking it to a shop? I don't want to go in way over my head and have to end up taking it in anyway. | ||

some questions. are you comfortable working on machines? do you have a good place to work on your bike, relatively clean, well lit? no dust, do you have the wrenches, sockets, pliers, A large rock (  )- etc. You mentioned that the bike is your daily driver, what happens if you don't get done in time? what happens if you make a mistake and have to replace a major part? where is the engine leaking from? I just helped M2NC put gaskets in his cyclone, and repair and replace some parts in the primary, he needed gear chest seals and gaskets, base gaskets, and rocker box gaskets, push rod tube seals [ stock ] and new rear isolators. Your engine, where is it leaking from? Just rocker boxes, both front and rear. pretty easy, gear chest/base gaskets not so much so, all are do able in that you are in CA you may have other resources close by good luck...  |
