How hard is it to get to the battery on an S3?Are the leads toward the front,or the rear? | ||

My 2000 S3T is easy... terminals are in the front. I was able to put on a lead for a battery tender without popping any plastic. | ||

I've never had much luck accessing the S3T battery. The tail section plastics are just a little to low for easy lead access. | ||

10mm ratchet spanner and mine are easy to get to. | ||

It saves me about 30 minutes of cussing to just take 5 mins to remove the tail section. 4 screws under the seat and fuel tank bolt if I recall gives easy access. DAve | ||

Dave,long time no see.How have you been? What kind of screws,phillips head,#2,#3,or allen?What is the tank bolt?I've never dealt with an S3 before and I'll have to carry tools with me on an airplane and do this in a driveway. | ||

Tank bolt is 1/2". Screws under seat are large phillips originally. Possible to replace them with 7/16" bolts if the phillips get lost. | ||

I think the battery bolts are 10 millimeter. | ||

Yep, battery are 10mm. Some have a Phillips cross in them too. Bodywork is #1 Phillips. A #2 can work...as long as the screws aren't stuck. If they're stuck a #2 will just spin. If you're going to pull the tank (it is a 1/2" bolt at the rear of the tank, under the nose of the seat), have a couple fuel line hose clamps ready to go. If you're just lifting it enough to slide the tail out though...no hose work needed. | ||

Do you really need to lift the tank to access the battery? In order to get the tail out of the way (which eases battery access immensely) you have to lift up the tank 'just enough'. You should be able to lift the tank enough without having to disconnect the fuel line, 1313 | ||

Hey ya a Mike! It's been a while. Went through some challenges but things are much better although I'm up in the Chicago far north burbs. Exactly what 1313 said.
