My main drive belt snapped two days ago, and it seems my closest Harley dealer doesn't have any and says it will take them five weeks to get a new one. Such a shame. Anyway, I've heard stories that a Sportster belt will work in its place, though the dealer said "no". Can anyone confirm or deny this story properly? Also, can anyone suggest another avenue to locate a replacement quicker? I will be trying other dealers, but I would like to have more information if possible. I am located in Toronto, Ontario, and I have already called Jacox Harley in Mississauga. There's a store on eBay that has one (part: G0500.8) listed for $175, which appears to be the going price these days. Thanks for the help! x. |

The Sporty belt will work fine. It was OEM on all tubers. |

Any '91-'03 Sportster belt will work. Later ones were thinner I believe. Never ask for a Buell part at an HD dealer once you find out it's an HD part. Even if you both know it fits, they will say it won't. S.O.P. for most HD dealerships. |

Same .. same.. Buell part number G0500.8 .. 128 teeth Sporty part number same year.. 40022-91 .. 128 teeth. That 91 at the end of the part number says it hasn't changed since 1991... Give them the Sporty part number as they'll have one and it will fit.. |

I would use an 04 or later XB belt of the same tooth count. It's a tougher belt. |

It does not matter how much you pay for a belt or how well made(strong), as it will not last unless you adjusted it correctly !!! DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT Class 101, just PM me for a copy ... |

Thanks to everyone for your help, I just won the eBay auction listed above, so now I just have to wait for it to arrive and get it installed. x. |

Remember the frame has a removable plate on the right side. |

Yeah the S2 has a great design for Isolator changes, bad kickstand design, but great for isolator and belt changes! |

I'd rather design a kickstand fix than an isolator tool . (Message edited by phelan on August 19, 2014) |

I can change the iso no problem on MY S1 and M2 no special tool needed. That being said I am using an X1 frame for my project because of the removable side plate. |
