was looking at this today:
http://www.ultimaproducts.com/programmableignition .html

seems like a really good upgrade, but does it delete the voes?

I was hoping to possibly find a programmable ignition that uses a MAP/RPM based algorithm instead of just a rpm based algorithm.

But at least if it keeps the voes part throttle/cruise timing can still be at acceptable ranges.

also, does anyone know what the stock timing curve is on an early S1?

Ultima keeps the VOES switch. There are no aftermarket ignitions that I'm aware of that use MAP algorithms instead of the VOES. When I had my '03 XL1200S, which is factory dual plugged and has a unique HD ignition with a MAP sensor instead of a VOES, my only aftermarket option was to replace the nose cone and use an ignition with a VOES switch.

I run single fire Crane HI4E with 8.8 Accel wires. It does a few things the stock ignition doesn't. One thing it doesn't do, and no ignition system does, is give any extra power worth a mention. Thus I see no benefit to fitting a programmable ignition system to an S1.

Yes go better than stock and find reliability and a brighter spark maybe, but the dyno tests of old still apply today and no more power (real benefit) can be had by spending more money on an even fancier system than an already fancy one somewhat better than stock. Just my opinion of course.

yeah but im running stage 3 xb heads, 1250 kit, and soon new cams/45mm mikuni...

also, i often run 100octane, as i usually fill up at the local airport where i spend most of my time.

would be nice to have a 100octane curve and a std premium curve

at only 3 gallons at a time, its not that pricey... at 55mpg

You'll certainly need two curves if you're going to swap between fuels 4ork..

The Avgas has a higher octane and will burn slower and will therefore require more advance...

I use the Dynatec DD2000-HD2E8P, Larry with Dynatek was very helpful in selecting the correct unit. www.dynaonline.com
I based my purchase on this article http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdignitionspors ter.htm The manual http://www.powercommander.com/downloads/Support-Re leased/Dynatek/Manuals/D2K-HD2E.pdf. I have been very happy with it. Here is an article on adjusting the VOES http://www.mklsportster.com/xlvoes.htm I run on curve 2 and will switch to 6500 RPM rev limiter. Hope this gives you some ideas.
