My new-to-me S2, I've just discovered, has a Quicksilver carb. And its leaking from the overflow and the vent. From what I gather, I'm better off going to a Keihin. So the question: the difference between a Harley carb and a Buell carb (about $50 on eBay), would likely only be the length of the enricher cable and the orientation of the cable-stays, yes?

the keihin is the least favored carb. the leaking means you most likely have a needle and seat problem. I have read that oxygenated gas leaves crusty barnacles all over the insides and the needle and seat area is sensitive to this. The Mikuni HSR42 is considered #1.

Had a Quicksilver years ago, good carb...

Strip it and clean it, as Danny said it's probably got some gunk on the needle/seat

I love (all) my CV's. Proper jetting, regular (normal) use...zero issues.

And...readily available parts, kits, service items.

No experience with the QS, but I've heard they can be beaten into submission with proper attention and maintenance...

My wife's S2T had the quicksilver on it, apparently it somehow met CA air resources board specs.

Take it off, keep it handy.
If you ever get REALLY pissed off, use it as an outlet by throwing it at immovable objects and watch that POS shatter.

In my opinion, the quit-silver is best used for smithereen production.

Hers decided to mist raw fuel out of the inlet, soak the filter, then pop back so it all caught fire.

Burned in stealth mode for a moment, then the melting unobtainium carbon-fiber cover gave us an inkling that the bike WAS ON FIRE!

I pulled off all the burned bits, and installed a CV. Ran great after that til she sold the bike a couple years later.

I had a Mikuni on the RS (special sealed unit for turbo use) and it was an excellent carb.

DON'T bother investing ANYTHING to resurrect that thing.

Again, my opinion, based on bad experience.

Also, if they were a good carb, you'd see them on lots of bikes.

You don't.
