Hi guys, looking for options for switches. Something that looks better than the S1/X1 pieces. I was originally thinking about ISR pieces but theirs includes levers and M/C, and I prefer my ASV levers and Brembo 18mm (or was it 19mm?) radial M/C from a 999. I have a ZX6R clutch clamp with ASV lever that I will be adapting on the clutch side as well, to have matching levers and to get rid of the one-piece Buell clutch clamp. I also thought about using HD switches, but that could be a headache where the throttle cables are involved, since I have a 7/8" throttle tube and the HD right switch set uses a 1" tube. Thoughts?

My setup as it sits currently. PO converted to 7/8" controls with some "interesting" handlebars, but the left side is tweaked. I have some 7/8" bar stock and just got a 1" buckhorns handlbar to cut up to fit the 1" WesTek clamps. This way I can make a symmetrical pair of bars, with the bonus of making them ~1" up and 2" out.

There is no straightforward answer as you want to use switches separate from the clutch perch yet retain the throttle in the switch.

The obvious answer is a quick action throttle then you can use aftermarket switches on both sides, but you have to consider the distance between perch mount and switch block on the clutch side.

I'd be 7/8th all the way. Wider choice in every aspect, save the Harley stuff, which you don't want really.

When I did mine I took the Buell wires off the switches. I used these and more. I had to route some of the stock wires down the opposite side harness sleeve, and extra wires too. This to accommodate the only way I could retain all the switch functions.

With the ISR stuff being .3 amp rated, I had to use relays for the headlamp flash function and horn. Hence the additional wires. The bonus of doing it the way I did, retaining the Buell wiring despite having to reroute to different sides for some, and add more wires, allowed me to keep the stock wiring connects at the harness end.

I can tell you from experience, the ISR stuff is not cheap and there's a lot more involved than you first think. Front brake light switch for one. Took me a couple of weeks of messing to get it right.

Thanks Rocket! Thanks Ken, I saw the grip ace stuff the other day, but the price turns me off a bit. The perch mounted buttons are quite intriguing though, I'll be looking at those a bit more as well.

Quick action throttle is a great idea Rocket. I've seen some 999 take-offs (not stock I know) pretty inexpensively recently, I may adapt one of them so the price fits my wallet better : ). I don't necessarily have a budget, but I am a bit conscious of my spending and like to stretch my dollars a bit so I can get more done. If something just jumps out at me though, I save and get it.

One of the issues I struggled with was attaching the wires to the switch gear. Given the contact and wire require tiny blobs of solder only, it made the job difficult to start with. More so when the clearance behind the switch is so very close to the bars. It's easy to get the solder blob big enough to make contact with the bar. Was tricky stuff. You wouldn't have this problem if using those 'hanged down' switches, but you would need to make a neat wiring solution if you wanted it clean looking.

The quick action throttle is one of my favourite 'upgrades' I've ever done. It transforms the way I ride. It's so responsive I have much more control over the instantaneous aspect of opening and shutting off. It's fast like flicking a switch yet linear all along. I love it. Gives much more control, which is apparent when popping wheelies!

If you go q/a you might require to modify your cables. I had the Buell adjusters put into new outers so I had the same adjustments. The inner and outers both had to be a slightly different lengths from stock cables, and match the Mikuni fittings of course. I also went with 1mm wire to keep the action and hand work light. There is no inbuilt throttle stops either, which means the cables do run a higher strain risk, but they'll still last years.

The ISR stuff looks sick! Good job Rocket! Those levers look similar to ASV levers. Do they fold forward in a tip-over?

I'm still deciding on switches, but you bring up a good point about switch amperage. I'll have to keep that in mind with whatever i decide to use. I did manage to change my clutch perch today. ZX6R perch with ASV lever matching my brake lever. This allowed be to ditch the Buell one piece design and also ditch the mirror mount since I have fairing-mounted mirrors.

My next project is making new handlebars for my WesTek billet clamps. The setup one of the POs made is tweaked upward on the clutch side, but it's aluminum so I don't have the tools to heat or weld it. The new bars will be made out of 1" buckhorns cut down and 7/8" OD steel bar stock, and they will be ~1" taller.
