Leaks, leaks and more leaks..

Seems like every time I turn around I see another leak on this bike.. It first started out with breather issues.. I added a puke can, problem solved. Now I sometimes get oil on the right rear side.. rear brake master, rear peg and tire.

I was going to start with the easy stuff.. Pop off the primary cover change out the crank seal, starter gasket, chain guide, shifter seal.. etc.

Now I go look and see oil dripping out of the front rocker cover on the left side (the guy told me that was just done). It also looks like a little from the head gasket.. I know, I doubt it too. It's on the same side as the rocker leak but I see no run off at all..

Oh and let's not forget the leaks coming from the base.. ARRRG!

So now the plan is to order a top end kit and all the other stuff for the primary.

I was going to add:

Head bolts, intake and exhaust bolts, re-seat the valves and chain guide.. Anything I should add that I'm not thinking about?

As far as Gaskets go I assume regular 93-03 1200 will do it.. What about brand name? Cometic? James? or..

One more thing. The motor mount says "Do not remove" What's up with that? I was reading something about "stretch to torque" If I keep it on the head and just remove the tie rod from it will it clear the frame?

Man! the PO most of cleaned the crap out of it before I got there.. Not one spot of oil anywhere when I got her and I only put 1500 miles on it..

Gaskets dry out and shrink, leaks are more common the less you use the bike. Originals were paper/fiber, new ones are rubber coated metal and much more durable.

"Do not remove" means "from the head". You should be able to rubiks-cube the head out with the mount still attached.

Check compression and leakdown before you tear it apart. "Breather problem" followed by "more leaks" spells "crankcase pressure problem" to me...find and fix the problem, not just the symptom...

Make sure you aren't overfilling it with oil too.if the breathers were spitting a lot of oil, that's usually the case.

The base gasket is the only bad one on your list in terms of costs. Is it just a little weep, or is it a full blown leak? All my Buells have a little weep down there (enough to collect dirt, not enough to pool or drip).

Thanks guys, Got the rocker seals covered.. They looked new but installed wrong.. It was cut right where it was leaking..

And kilroy, Don;r be a poser all your life.
I've had 30 year old bikes that didn't leak a drop.
