Can someone help me out with this? Installed a Barnett scorpion clutch but the pressure plate springs dont seem to be seating right. Almost like they're too long? The picture shows them completely compressed. Since they stick out it doesnt allow the clutch ramp to seat and work properly. Anyone ever install one of these? other possibility I'm thinking is that maybe the springs are correct but there's something I'm missing in between the ramp and the pressure plate?

also noticed that the chain is extremely tight now and definitely was not like that when i pulled the transmission a week ago.

any ideas?

i apologize for being impatient. really wanted this thing back on the road this weekend. ive had the bike about two months and only have 1 hour of riding it mostly around the block.

a little update . ended up putting the primary cover back on to try it out how i had it and the clutch grabs fantastically and rode it down the street. however now i have another issue. there's a ton of forward and backward play in the shifter. once i shift it, it does not return itself back to position and i have to manually drop the shifter then shift back up to get it to go up a gear... thinking maybe there's something wrong on the shifter shaft. maybe i installed it incorrectly?

this whole transmission tear down began because of a detent plate arm that had snapped $11 part. now its turning practically into a full rebuild..new baker shift drum and detent plate, new chain adjuster shoe, new shifter shaft, new clutch, seals, bearings etc.

another issue like i stated is the chain is really tight only about 1/4 inch of play and it wasnt like this before i pulled everything apart. i bought a new chain adjuster shoe from american sportsbike because after pulling the primary cover i noticed the stock one was cracked. the thing is almost twice the size of the stock one and there's no way it will fit with how tight the chain is so i just left it off until i get these shifting issues fixed(i know, i know). does the chain have to go on the same way it came out because its possible i installed it the opposite way. it's pretty darn straight right now and everythings torqued to specifications so i dont think thats the issue.

Sounds like the return spring on the shifter didn't get hooked back on, or came loose when you reassembled it. Maybe bumped the shift shaft the wrong way putting the primary cover back on?

How did the new clutch compare in size to the old one, was it bigger around? Maybe you got the wrong part, like a big twin clutch vs Sportster clutch. If it was bigger around I'd have wondered at that prior to putting it in. If not then chain play should have remained the same.

Is the primary chain adjuster backed all the way out?

Also want to make sure, as Buellistic mentioned above, you didn't put the spring plate in that Barnett clutch pack did you?

ya im going to pull the primary cover and check out the spring. hopefully thats the issue. i noticed when i put the shifter shaft back in initially that it had a lot of play but for some reason i didnt think anything of it.

clutch is pretty much the same size as the old one. it uses the stock clutch basket so there's no reason why the spring should be that tight unless its not straight which looking at it it looks fine and both the engine sprocket and clutch assembly have been torqued in place. im thinking maybe the chain had some wear on it going one direction and i flipped it around?? and yes the chain adjustment is completely backed out and still didnt fit.

yep i left the "grenade plate" out. how the scorpion is designed pretty much dictates thats the only type of clutch that will go in it. i tried the stock one in it for shits and giggles and the inside teeth wont allow the stock metal plates or grenade plate to go in so you have to use barnett plates.so far the clutch is working excellent! only issues are the chain and shifter shaft. ill tear into it this weekend and reinstall everything.
