As always, every few years a bunch of stuff needs replacing at once. This time it's front rotors, pads, chain and sprockets, tires, and a set of lifters. My clutch will likely be next. My aftermarket race tach took on water and doesn't hold a memory, but that can wait. Always something. People often suggest just getting a new bike, but everything new gets old just the same. | ||

Agreed. Age and mileage wear all things out. Mine is waiting for oil, primary fluid, tires, brake pads, muffler, crank seal, etc. Just replaced the rear brake hose and bled the brakes after changing to a radial front M/C. (Message edited by phelan on July 02, 2014) | ||

yup im in the same boat... new pads up front, new wheel bearings in the back, spark plugs had to rebuild the carb, i let it sit too long, my aftermarket tachs lcd barely works and pretty much tells me nothing (shift light still works tho still having running issues, and i need to rebuild my petcock :/ cant get anything this cool new either | ||

I feel you brother. not one riding season complete for me without a major repair since 1999. Oh wait, there was the two year sabbatical I was forced to take, thanks to the Dbag making a left hand turn in front of me in his lexus..... but I digress. seriously, I've come close to giving her up many times. but i spend the money on the tools, learn to do the repair, and get it back on two wheels and all that nonsense about selling it goes behind faster than the red light I just left.... These bikes are basically always repairable, parts are pretty easy to find (for the motor anyway) and no one else has one. Keep on this site for help on any repair, and you said it right before: "People often suggest just getting a new bike, but everything new gets old just the same." | ||

I'm always wandering around a bike shop checking different bikes out and the salesman comes over wants to know what I currently ride (I just love this question...) "oh I've got a few old tube frame Buells.." And then the salesman at a HD shop always says ... "We can take those off your hands on a trade in.." My response is always the same..... "Why the hell would I do that?" It's funny though, if I'm in any shop except a HD shop the answer is always "wow .... Cool" EXACTLY! WOW ... COOL! (Message edited by Jolly on July 06, 2014) | ||

The important thing is that we keep them on the road. I like that any hardware can be found at thd local hardware store, gaskets can be found at the local dealer, and most consumables can be picked up at local powersports dealers. When all else fails, when factory parts are hard to find or expensive, there's the aftermarket. |
