Hey guys,
I've always been an M2 guy, but looking at buying an S3T for commuting (62 miles each way). I've found a couple from guys here on badweb that I'm looking at, but none of them have the bags. My question is how easy is it to find the bags for these bikes? I see Airtech makes them new for $500+. Are there sources other than the obvious (here, ebay, etc.) for new or used?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

The harder part may be the bracket assembly. Also, I do not know if the Airtech bags have the mounting hardware that goes inside the bag.

If you think you want some, I would recommend posting something in the Parts wanted classifieds to that effect.

It took about 2 weeks to find the set I have for my S3

Thanks. I don't think they have the hardware at Airtech. I'll keep my eyes open, but I appreciate the thought about the parts wanted section.

...and don't operate under the assumption they'll be cheap. They aren't. If you find a good set...have your wallet ready.

Thanks for the help you guys. I found a set on eBay that match the bike, and got the large mounting bracket. Unfortunately, I can't find the small bracket ANYWHERE! Any thoughts?

If not, would someone be willing to take some pictures and send me a couple measurements? I may see about having the piece fabricated.

Thanks again,
Rich

small bracket? I thought there was only one bracket made to fit S3 bags on S3s.

I am assuming he means the small piece that goes behind the license plate holder and has the stand offs.

There's the big one that's pretty easy to find (in my opinion), and the smaller piece that exists only in legend.

Here's a couple of pictures. I need the piece that mounts on the back of the frame and hangs under the plate holder. It has a rubber bumper off of each side that apparently helps keep the bag from bouncing. I guess in the technical sense it doesn't really "mount" the bags to it, but it looks like it keeps the bags more stable.

In the picture, I need the piece(s) in the middle.

I have a couple if those small brackets and both are cracked. They're a poor design. I intend making a new one and bracing it back to the larger bracket.

My main issue is I need a lefthand shallow lid.

Stev0, would you be willing to part with one of your cracked ones?

Let me check in my garage for a narrow lid. For some strange reason, I ended up with two of the same side. I just don't remember if they are right or left.

That's funny Stev0, I actually have a left narrow lid (S2 lid though) and need a right lid.

That'd be awesome if you did Dennis. Phil an there was a new right one on ebay the other day. Auction finished now but I'll find you the link later.

Rich. I'll make a drawing with dimensions and pics later and you can get a local shop to make one as I'll show where the design needs to be improved.

One of these are mine and the other is sort of a permanent loan.

Thanks! That would be extremely helpful. I'm curious to see how you're planning to mod the design.

The back bracket is mounted on two holes that are in line horizontally.. This gives it no support in the fore/aft plane.

Both brackets I have here are cracked through those holes, I was going to mod the bracket with a heavier plate but it would still have the same inherent design flaw...

So I'm going to explore bracing it back to the other bracket. Similar to how some off road designs are done..

If I can get another lefthand shallow lid then the bags will stay on all the time, so it will be covered.

Here's a link where you can buy some S2 bags.

Here they say they have them for the S3 but I don't see them on the list. Maybe call them?

They are grouping the S3 bags as the same as the S2 , though we know them not to be the case (pun intended :P). Just as they are calling the S3T right fairing lower the "short" S2T lower

OK, when you say the S3 bags are different to the S2 bags do you mean the hinge system or the actual shape of the lid...

I have both early and late style S3 hinge styles here and the actual lids themselves are interchangeable, although you need to change the hinges to suit...

I also have a factory recall/upgrade mounting kit here still in the box..

I'll give Airtech a email and I might buy me a pair of shallow lids..

I hav e boxes of both here and they are quite dissimilar in terms of shape. . . construction and mounting.

The S2 had the Dzus mounting.

The S3 went through two iterations . . . the "snap lever" and the "spinning knob".

OK, so the shape of the Airtech lids wont fit my S3 backs then ??? Bummer...

I have both the snap lever and spinning knob ones with the two different hinge designs.

Although I have to use the spinner ones due to the snap lever ones being broken on one set of bags.
