I'm working out some electrical bugs from my recent S1W build. I went out to start my bike this morning and the battery was just about dead. It seems to charge once the bike is running, but I need to get it started to diagnose it further. So my question is this: is it safe for my electrical system (particularly the tractor style voltage regulator) to jump start the bike with a car battery. From what I read, it should be ok as long as the car is not running. However I thought I would check with the experts before I do anything stupid when I get home today
Thanks in advance!

I have push started my M2 before. Put it in 2nd gear, running start, hop on, pop the clutch and away you go...

A month ago at work, I left the key in the ignition and it drained the battery. Lights worked but cannot start. I got a jump from a car NOT RUNNING. No issues with the bike since from using a car battery.

Thanks for the input guys. The only reason I was asking about it instead of just push starting it was because when I left for work yesterday the roads where wet, and I couldnt get the rear tire to grip enough to turn the engine over.

True dat.

I have jumped pretty much every bike I owned with the car running before I found out it was potentially hazardous to the regulator. So I got away with it too.

If the connection to the running car is very good, AND if the car's charging system is set "hot" the extra juice will be going to the regulator.

Ironically, the only regulator I have ever had fail on me was for my 2008 XB12X. It's the only bike I have never jumped from a running car!
