If I have my kickstand up and it's in gear shouldn't the bike start when I pull in the clutch? I have a slope leading up to the garage and when I park it I sometimes leave it in gear. When I go to leave I'll raise the kickstand, the engine light comes on, I hear the fuel pump but when I pull in the clutch and go to start nothing happens. I have to go to neutral. My other past bikes would allow you to do this. Is the switch bad or is it a Buell thing? MM | ||

The clutch switch is an H-D thing, not only Buells. The side-stand interlock that prevents starting is a Buell thing. It sounds like you have correctly identified your problem as a clutch switch. You might get a temporary fix by spraying it with WD-40.. | ||

In other words, the bike logic thinks it is still in gear because of the failed bad switch and the interlock prevents the starter from engaging. | ||

Could be your sidestand switch isn't working. Jumper the two pins in the sidestand plug to test. | ||

You can bypass the clutch switch using a paper clip so can better isolate the root cause. | ||

Took a multimeter out to check the switch, it's bad. Bypassed the connector with a wire and sure as $h!t it started. I'll try lubing the switch. Does it get corroded and stuck or just go bad? Thanks for the help guys. MM | ||

It could either way but the mechanism is quite simple. IIRC the last time I checked it was around $12. |
