Went for a good long ride yesterday, I noticed a slight pinging on heavy acceleration mostly in 5th gear. I have a 2000 M2, went through jetting and new intake seals last year. I run BP 93 octane most of the time. The first time I noticed this ping was after filling up 87 Octane because that was what was available. My question is about adding Octane boost. I found a YouTube video from Amsoil that give a very good explanation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLlrSy0SfsA
Any thoughts?

First thought is, if you're going WFO...downshift to 4th or 3rd. That much load on the engine wants a downshift.

Higher octane is to reduce pre-ignition - pinging, so running lower octane will cause this condition, which can be bad for your bike's engine.

Follow Rat's advice, and using an octane booster if high octane gas isn't available will be a lot safer for your bike than running low octane gas. Buell recommends 91 octane or higher.

For a commercial video, they should have hired someone with better speaking skills. But, if you're stuck with 87, stay off the throttle or use octane boost.

I checked the knowledge vault and there is a ton of information on others having detonation problems. There fixes include cooler plugs and higher octane. Someone mentioned Octane Booster 104+. Thanks for your replies.

I came across this information on the web
http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdignitionspors ter.htm.
Don't know if it pertains to the 2000 M2 ignition module...any info for a part number for a ignition module with corrected advance curve would be useful.

Detonation Solved - After hours of research on the Web and several books came to the conclusion that the initial detonation came when I oversized the vacuum slide hole to 9/64" instead of 7/64", this created a lean condition. This problem was compounded when I installed the Dynatec DD2000-HD2E8P, set at curve 2, this curve advanced too quickly. After finding the curve for the stock Q Curve ignition, it was very mild and close to Curve 4 on the Dyna.

I went ahead and replaced the vacuum slide, and put the OEM Q-Curve module back in and the detonation is gone completely, even after a long hard ride with temperatures in the 90's. (93 octane from BP)

I have noticed I have lost the quick throttle response off idle and am considering drilling the slide to 7/64" and reinstalling the Dyna - set to curve 4.

Thanks for your help, I mostly gained experience from my blunders.
