Actually it's a 14.7 inch shock.

You will need to order a 14.7 front mount as well.

American Sport Bike has both. Ask for Al.

And on an X1 going from the long to the short shock, you'll need the corresponding chin fairing bracket - that is - if you are still running a chin fairing.

Those pesky details,

You can get a Penske or the twin motorcycles shock in the 16 1/2 in length. Way better than the stocker. Bit of money though. But you wouldn't have to swap brackets and find the chin bracket.

Yes they do sell the bracket but it is a separately sold item.http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/17396-S
Your choices of shocks are a new stock shock like the third on pictured. http://www.americansportbike.com/images/Shock_abso rbers.jpg
I do not know the price and availability of a stock shock but you will need the bracket and it is sold separately.
Your other options are:
A Penske http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/5194-83
A twin motorcycle
http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/5191-17
Or a Works performance
http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/6060
Each of these shocks is available in long or short configuration.
