I have my Buell in at the Harley shop with a dead ignition module. I believe it is a 7 pin type and I was wondering what year Sportster 1200/883 unit I could use. Could I use a Dyna or Softail one? I seem to remember the screamin' eagle module being used for all those bikes. Maybe I'm wrong. I would still like to use the one with the 8,000 rev limit as it has worked good in the past. Part numbers? Anyone?

I replaced mine with an ignition module from a 98S3T and used a conversion cable to go from the newer style ignition module to the old style wiring harness, but it matches the motor since I was using the 98S3T motor in my bike.

if you need to borrow it to get you back on the road I have a 95 S2 ignition module available. don't think I want to sell it since I still have the stock 95 motor, but I will sure loan it for free while you sort out a replacement. let me know and I can get it in the mail tomorrow so that we can maybe get you on the road this weekend.

No, you cannot use a dyna or softail box because those are big twins. I run the same setup as jolly because I also have changed hard parts (my s2 has the stock bottom end but thunderstorm top end and x1 cams).

I want to say 94-96 xl boxes will work if you can't find a correct s2 box.

Well since the thread is asking for s2 information...no, I didn't mean s1.

Ted's got Lightning heads, so a module from something with flat-top pistons and the traditional hemi chamber would have a very mild advance and wouldn't be right. So definitely not a stock 1200 Sportster module. The 883 module would be better but the SE best, as I recall.
I may have a spare I could loan you, Ted. If its just to get your bike out of the shop. I'll look tonight.
