Hi all, new here but may have an opportunity to join your crowd...

I've been offered an '02 M2 Cyclone for $1700. I drive it, so I know it runs, but at speed, it seems like it will randomly drop a cylinder, then kick it back in. Like maybe a plug or coil starting to go bad? Theres a few aesthetic things broken, but nothing major. Around 34k miles though.

Thoughts? Worth $1700? Is this the bike that gets me into the Buell family?

You will probably need to do some work put some $ into it and some blood sweat and tears if you are willing to accept that then yes its perfect and a good price plus you already know the bike.

For that price, if it runs, whatever else you need to do is trivial. The tubers, especially the carbureted ones, are stupid simple to work on.

That at speed miss may as simple as a bad kickstand interlock switch.

If I'd come across it at that price, and it had a clear title, I'd probably buy it. Even though I have no idea what I would do with it (my Uly is a better M2, but that doesn't make the M2 less of a great bike).

I haven't seen an '02 go for that cheap. Good price for sure. The '02 already has updated primary chain tensioner, updated gear shift assembly, speedo and tach, and (correct me if I'm wrong) maybe even the updated oil pump gear.

Don't think that you'll never have to work on it though. They need regular attention but as already stated they are simple to work on.

That is exactly how my friend got me to purchase his M2. Asked me to store it while he moved. Asked me to ride it once in awhile to keep the carb clean. Than a year later offered the "friend" price on it. I have no regrets on my purchase.

+1 on the sidestand switch causing the cutout. I had that problem on my bike and just bypassed the switch. If it isn't that, it has got to be a bad wire somewhere. For that price I would certainly pick it up and find the problem.
