Hello guys.

Was there any VIN plates in early S1's?
I have 96 S1 which I bought recently, but on frame head I have only embossed frame number.
Problem is that in my country we need visible frame number AND also vehicle identification plate (even if there wasn't originally). So I think I have a serious problem.

So if there was, can somebody send me a picture of it? Or where I can get one?
Thanks for every post

To my knowledge, there was no VIN plate in the sense of the one on a car or truck. There most likely was a sticker, on a frame member near the steering stem, that had the same numbers as those embossed on the steering stem. It also would likely have had info about date of manufacture, ect. I don't know how one would get a replacement, or even if they are available. Perhaps, with proper documentation, H-D customer service could help? Maybe, with help from a local H-D shop?

Hope this helps, Dave

I found this frame where we can see a sticker or aluminium plate

If someone have it and can actually send me a picture of it (so I can made a "fake" one myself), I would be happy.
I will try to call to local H&D. Thank you for good idea

On a 96 there is no plate with the number it is stamped into the headstock. To make a sticker would beca federal crime! Also the stickers are tamper proof if removed they can tell dont ask me how I know: )

The VIN is stamped in the head section of the frame.

It is a sticker, not a plate.

Replacements cannot be ordered from the factory.

If your frame is a non-original color, there is a good chance the VIN is still stamped in...just covered with a coat of paint or powdercoat.

And yes, the stickers separate when/if you try to remove them.
