Explanation:

The ECM see's battery positive voltage less than 6 volts or greater than 18 volts ...

Plain AMERICAN ENGLISH:

The cranking voltage is getting low(charge the battery or you need a new battery) ...

18 volts or higher usually indicates a faulty voltage regulator ...

How to check these two items is in the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL for your YEAR/MODEL BUELLthat you should have(don't forget to get the PARTS BOOK) ...

Check with Al at www.AmericanSportBike.com ...

UP-DATES:

DO NOT USE A d'ARSONAL VOM as they load the circuit being tested !!!

All electrical connections should be CLEAN and TIGHT ...

Battery voltage: 12.8v to 13.0v ...

Charge voltage at 1000 RPM 13.0v to 15.0v ...

Stator AC voltage output: 38/52 volts AC at 2000 RPM(plus check for grounded stator and stator resistance) ...

If your start load voltage drops below 9 volts the starter will click which means you need a battery charge or a new battery ...

REMEMBER THIS; Battery load testers KILL your battery so you can be sold a new one !!!

The only load that should be ever put on your battery is the load that is put on it when you push the starter button !!!
