Up until a couple days ago I've been steady struggling w/ the moisture induced problems on my '00 S3T; it runs rougher than poop, fouls the plugs w/in a few miles and drips raw fuel out the exhaust. I even loaded it into the pickup for the 380 mile trip to the dealer.

They kept it for a day and a half and then ordered a new Oxy sensor for me. I installed the new sensor, fired her up and no change whatsoever. Grrrrr.

Then three things happened that brought the soulution all together. 1) I found a factory service manual on ebay. 2) I bought an engine code thing-a-majig and used it. 3) I sat down and studied the problem carefully and Ta-Dah!

Turns out the headers on my bike had been cracked and rewelded in two places and when I hit the torrential downpour all the cold water must've broke the welds open again, thus fooling the Oxy sensors and causing the bike to run extremely rich. A new (used) set of $80 stock headers and we're back on the road, no check engine light flashing and no more running like a peice of fecal matter.

I'm so proud of myself. Being a neophyte Bueller and not much into wrenching I usually just take all my problems to town and let someone else deal w/ it. But since the nearest dealer is a six-hour drive and neither of the two independent shops in town will touch a HD or Buell I had to do it myself. Maybe I've started a new trend here?

Congratulations. I always hear people state all the reasons they can not fix something themselves. This is even more true when the vehicle adds a computer. You prove again that you can. Isn't so much more satisfying when you figure it out yourself.

Nice Job

Thx Todd, now if I can just convince my wife that all these extra "toys" I bought to support my newfound dealership indepenence are worthwhile investments (along w/ the 2,300 sf shop I'm renovating)) we'll be okay.

Rek... very cool! Add one of Court's proverbial milk crates to that nice new shop for this sort of activity in the future...

Ditto what Henrik said....and Bomber...and Reepi and Todd.

And you used your brain. If you weren't so far away you'd be my new dealer!
