my engine builder friend gave the thumbs up to just keep running my cylinders/pistons as is for now.
he said the wear looks totally normal and will be fine for quite a while.

That was great news and now I have some extra time to locate .020 pistons for a future rebuild.
So if any one has a set, please contact me.

The Thunderstorm pistons that came in my M2 00 stock are cast to match chamber, so doubt you will find them if no one is stocking them.
i had one off design JE forged pistons made for my twin cam dyna. have to order four pistons or more & give all details for machining the top the way you want. it's hard to get forged pistons made to match chamber like the cast. but my m2 motor came with pistons so far down the bore they could not work like they were designed. i had to machine barrel to get piston up in bore more .

Check Blast piston numbers, for some reason I was thinking they are the same. I bought a set a year or so ago and even then they took a while to get.

No stock sportster pistons are not the same as Thunderstorm pistons. Thunderstorms are a domed piston and stock sportsters are a flat top. If you use stock sportster pistons you will lose a full point of compression (from 10:1 down to 9:1) which will kill performance.

NRHS has 1250 kits with the proper domed pistons available for your bike. Just google NRHS.

Another option just dawned on me!

My setup is already .010 O.S. and my pistons look great just the cylinders walls have the crosshatch "polished" out on the front and backs of the walls.

I can get new .010 rings for $15 a set,

SOOoooo, if I could find some standard bore cylinders that are in need of a .010 overbore, I could get them bored ($150) rering my .010 pistons and be in good shape.

Now heres the follow up question whos got some worn out standard bore cylinders for cheap?
And would the cylinders be a crossover to the Sportster parts (or other yr buells that are not thunderstorm?)

I have a set of cylinders off my wifes '02 S3T that have about 7k on them. I put a 1250 top end on her bike back in 2012 and don't have a need for the old cylinders. $75 plus shipping for the pair of them.

essmjay,

whats the condition of the bores?
Scuffs ,gouges, ridges, anything to catch a fingernail on? (They would have to clean up at .010)

I know its tuff to judge/buy something like this over the net.
If you want to try and take some pics I will definitely take a look.

Thanks,jeff

After looking at them I don't think you want them. I think they would need 20 over to clean up right.
Here is a thread from when I pulled them.
