Am I missing something here? I thought these were *much* better than the standard flanges and seals (which I don't have any issues with) yet we are offered 'extra O-ring sets'...

How long are these going to last? My HD ones last tens of thousands of miles. Ten or twenty years down the line I will have lost these extra O-rings (or forgotten about them)...

lets say you blow a head gasket, or have to remove a head for any other reason. you need to replace intake gaskets as well. there are a number of reasons.

Many have experience leaking much sooner than that. From what I have read, it's sometimes hard to tell you have the issue unless you do the specified test. You may have performance that has slowly deteriorated without noticing it.

Another thing to consider is damage during installation. Let's face it, if you damage an o-ring at installation, you're not going to want to pay international shipping fees and wait a week or more to get a new o-ring. In this case, it's a small insurance policy just in case...

The extra set is an $8.50 option in the drop-down. You don't have to purchase it if you don't want to.

I've been riding Harleys & drag racing street Harleys since late 70's, never had a problem in that area , the old Shovels you had clamps then the Evo's like the Buell use today, the early shovel used an o ring , then they changed to a like rubber hose that the clamp sealed. once in a while they could split so you changed. i road the same kick start only shovel i million kilometres & ran 11.7 113mph at track road it to track ran that time road it home.

Not being as familiar with these as the guys at Twin Motorcycles are I've asked for their input. Here's some of the points from our discussions. I hope this helps you all to understand their purpose.:

"Lots off people consider the hiccup and coughing holding back at 2000 - 3000 rpm on a Buell normal,and lots off people ride around with this problem and take this for granted...as 'it's a harley you know'

Other big companies offer updated gaskets and flanges to correct this issue. HD / Buell started in 2007 on all Sporster models with wider flanges (Buell standard from 2008 and up) With FI and emission regulations making the bike run very lean to pass emissions, small leaks will upset this very much.

With carbureted bikes, you will feel this only when they're bad, most carburetors are set to run rich...very different

How many have tested this ? and test this every service interval?

The problem is really very bike related, one has problems every 6000 miles, the other can run over 20000 miles before they fail. If you don't have problems don't change them, if you do have problems, our flanges can be a thing to look for.

We have a stunt rider on a Sportster , who is blowing these seals out every 400 km , and he is noticing this because he can not control his wheelies anymore , due to the hiccups and hesitating...he is now using our flanges."
