Footpeg bolt broke on the way home after hitting a dip in the road recently.

Had to purchase a couple pieces of hardware to make it home.

Considering the couple thousand or so times the bike has been jumped, somethings gotta give eventually.

The fallen parts were a little difficult to find on the wet, dark, busy, poorly lit road.

Your isolator looks scary.

Let me correct that for you Jeremy.

Your isolator looks f***ed!

Get a new pair, they're not expensive & not hard to fit.

Probably partly to blame for the footpeg due to excess vibration.

Are those the aluminum isolator inserts?

Yes, those are inserts. They dig into the isolators a little at the rear. It's actually a thin sliver of rubber that's been pushed out. I'd consider it more a cosmetic issue than anything else. The isos are all relatively fresh and the vibes are as they've always been. That one is also covered in chain lube, dirt, and road grime and can't hardly be seen.

I used to jump the bike a few times daily. My urban jumps are out of the way of my current daily commute so it's once weekly these days.

I'm quite sure it was more than vibration that broke the bolt. To avoid injury to the back and gonads, one must stand on the pegs when catching air. That puts a lot of stress on the bolts, especially that one as the other side was reinforced as there is no foot control attached to it.

One of these days I'll have a more suitable bike for such things. Until then, the Buell will have to do.

What's the point of having an S1, the ultimate hooligan machine, if you're just toolin' around?

My Buell is the opposite of a show bike. It is a down and dirty, stripped down fighter. Do with yours as you will.

These tubers are tough machines. Aside from the infrequent isolator replacement, the only other chassis failure I've had is the front engine mounting bolts.

I think you could put some electric tape around that bolt and use it for the footpeg just like that.

No offense and don't mean to start anything, but this is exactly why the used Buell market prices are where they are...Just sayin...

No. I've gotta get video someday.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble but your old school Buell has a terrible resale as it is a sport standard and not very sought after.

This bike looks amazing cleaned up and is in good shape mechanically.

A standard headlight and flyscreen could be installed in less than an hour, if desired.

Let know where an oddball, niche, obsolete, high mileage sportbike retains some value. Most the Ducatis of old aren't worth much but in replacement parts.

Any sportbike retaining or appreciating in value is probably not something you'd want to ride everyday.

You should've invested in leather and chrome if you wanted more of a return on your investment.

Hell, if you really like the bikes be happy they are inexpensive and ride the wheels off it.

that bike has so much cool s--t going on, and all to make it ride better. Very cool stuff there, and I don't think I've caught everything. I had the iso fillers on my M2 and really liked how they made the bike feel more solid. Your bike is one of a few making me get the bug again.

Thanks. The best stuff is on the inside. I was never much the showy type.

I appreciate the comments. All most people notice is the dirt and grime that is on it on a typical day. It gets rode in the wet a lot, and thus is pretty much always looking nasty.

IMHO, no one should judge how a person chooses to enjoy his Buell...

You can see the issue here though. The footpeg is held by far too small a fastener if you're gonna stand on the peg whilst jumping. Is it not a simple job to engineer it to take a larger fastener adding strength to it and the footpeg?

Rocket's onto something there. Rick, glad to see the bike is still going strong and you as well : ). But yeah drilling a larger bolt hole and fabricating larger peg mounts would be the ideal option IMO for your situation.

Like your Bike Rick !
i'm not into jumping but what ever your happy with.
i'm happy with my stock looking rat M2, as i can ride her all day, like in two weeks time i'll ride her for around 6 hours, one gas stop, then i'll take her to the track & race her, then i'll ride for an hour & a half further north to visit, then 7 & a half hours south home. the only jumps will be the bigger bumps in the roads i'm useing.
this is Australia. Cheers

Well, it lasted for twelve years and was replaced with a stronger bolt. We'll see in another decade or so

The peg mounts are lowering mounts installed upside-down, and are not something I could easily fabricate.

I can willingly ride mine for about a half day, after that it's not so fun anymore.

Back when I was jumping, wheelying, and doing stoppies daily it was blowing fork and shock seals about every 10k miles. A small price to pay.

Thanks guys.

My daily commute is a mess of traffic and can be a real frustration. It' nice to take the back way and unwind every now and then.

Rick, the images of your bike motivated me to finally get off my ass and get my S1 back together. It's standing on it's own two feet because of you.

Thank you very much! Brian

Rocket, I have been a little more sympathetic lately as I've been having to rack a lot of miles on it than in years past and the law enforcement presence seems stronger than ever.

Glad to hear it Beardo. A Buell locked away in the garage is a terrible waste.

Me too Rick, but perhaps because my friend who I have ridden with for years has concentrated on KTM Super Dukes these past few, and not an array of superbikes. So our riding roads have become more suitable to lower speed fun rather than race track like behaviour on the bigger better faster roads more suitable to that kind of riding.

The Buell is a great back road scratcher!

Very cool. KTM is my second favorite motorcycle brand. I hope to have one myself in the near future.

They are a great back road bike indeed.

Most of my favorite local riding roads have been developed and ruined.

Everywhere I've been, seems an intersection with a stoplight or stop sign always pops up at my favorite corner.

Most speed bumps around here have a little dip in the middle...just enough to ride through...though if you miscalculate it can hurt.
