i know there are a few, or at least 2 different shocks for tubers... well, 2 different leangths at least.

I see some with springs exposed, some with not.

mine is the long shock, with the spring not exposed. with the adjustable end in the rear.

what are the differences between them all? and for reference, i dont see anything or feel anything awry with mine, im just wondering.

Yours is the second series of shock. First series had exposed springs and they were the long shock. Some maybe most shocks were subject to a recall that amounted to a retainer being added to the rod end (aft end). The third series is the shorter shock with a bigger rodend that came out I think in model year 2000. It has also been retrofitted to earlier bikes as part of the recall. My M2 had that shock on it when I bought it. I understand that some owners had to get a little nasty to get that shock instead of the clamp add on.

So in short there are 3 different shocks that I know of of 2 different lengths. There are also 2 different front mounts of 2 different configurations to mount the shocks too.

This is what I know there may be more. I am sure others will get on here to tell me how wrong I am.

Correct 3 different Oem shocks and two legnths
There are also a couple manufacturers of aftermarket shocks all with exposed springs Penske, Works, and Twin motorcycles
The newer aftermarket shocks a by far better but also $$$$$$$$$$$

You will know if something is wrong with yours you will a see oil on the shock or below it and the famed pogo stick rear end
