Going to maybe do a trade--my 2002 Yamaha FZ1--for a very nice 2001 M2 Cyclone. Pretty excited. : ) I've owned a couple of XB bikes before--an '06 Uly and an '04 Lightning. This will be my first tuber. I'm hoping this will be a long term relationship. : )

Littlebuggles- I brought it home yesterday. It's actually a 2000 model not a 2001. It's gonna take a little getting used to that pounding Sportster-derived engine again after riding four cylinder Japanese liter bikes for the last 5 or 6 years. lol. But I love it! I love the low RPM torque, I love the way it looks, I love that it's unique, I love that it's AMERICAN and the ergos are roomier than my Japanese bikes were--and that's important with my 38" inseam. And the exhaust note.....oh yeah! : )
I'll post up some pics as soon as I'm able. My computer has been acting up and downloading pictures has been a real pain.

Nice, lot's of extras on that bike too. Was it in the for sale section here? I think I've seen it but don't recall where, the Banke shifter and brake with the D&D stand out in my mind.

Thats a nice example. Those aren't the stock handlebars. Maybe S3T?

Blast or S3 bars. Passenger section looks bigger, like it's had foam or a gel pad added and the then recovered too.

Very nice! Just get that derby cover off of there, it ruins an otherwise perfect M2.

Nice and clean. Fairly stock, and the non stock items are really nice additions (no, not the derby cover : ) ). I think you'll love it.

Thanks for the positive comments guys!
The PO said the bars were from the touring model.
I don't know what a gel seat feels like but this one's very soft.
I'll replace the derby cover when I can. lol.
I also received the tach and speedo assembly to bolt on when the correct mileage comes up, which is 12,xxx. It has 10K and change currently.
Oh, the bike was for sale on the Chico Ca. Craigslist. The PO lives in Willows. We met in Ukiah and made the trade there as it was about half way from me (Eureka) to him.

Fine lookin machine ( great color : ) I don't mind the Derby cover considering the cool shifter. Might confuse the folks that don't know H-D's well-engineered side
Enjoy!

Very nice M2. Welcome to Old School Buell.

Just from looking at the picture I'd say your drive belt is too tight. Factory spec is wrong for both final drive belt and the primary chain.

Mid year 2000 changed from original primary chain adjuster that was a weak design to an updated beefier adjuster. Yours may have been upgraded already but you never know without checking.

Keep an eye on your front motor mount and the bolts that go into the head.

Enjoy!

Thanks Coxter and Jim2!
The belt looks tight but felt loose to me. I was able to move it up and down quite a bit.
This bike has a Jan. 2000 build date, that would make it a later 2000 model, wouldn't it?

Set the rear drive belt so that you can get it to touch the top and bottom of the swingarm at the same time using finger pressure ; )

Kevmean- Thanks. I can almost get it to touch both now. The top of the swingarm has black marks where the belt has been slapping it already so I think I'll leave 'er be.

You can install the tach and dash now, just swap the speedo that's on the bike into the new dash.

Seat looks stock. Looking at the fork height, it may be a "low" model...which would explain a taller looking passenger pad (I believe the M2L has a scooped-out rider seat. Also, the grab strap is missing which makes it look taller. It sounds silly, but it's true.

Nice score, good looking M2. Clean.

If that's a Mikuni, then I forgive the previous owner for putting that Harley derby cover on it. ; )

Good eye Cyclonecharlie. It is indeed a Mikuni.

Reepitcheep--lol. Other than the bars, I believe the original owner performed all of the mods. The gentleman I got the bike from only owned it for about a year.

Useless trivia...
I e-mailed the original owner back and forth when he put the bike up for sale last year but just couldn't come up with the money at the time. Fortunately for me the PO was up for a trade and I ended up with the bike anyway. Funny how things work out sometimes. : )

"I don't need no stinking tach..." Seriously just extra weight, I only use mine for a gear indicator.
That is a beautiful find, very very much like the used one I bought.
Those bars look much higher than my 'Blast' handlebars. Maybe early S3T?

I've gotten different answers on that. I think maybe 1997-8 S3T had it's own part number, then in 1999-2000 began sharing Part # with the Blast? I've collected some info on this before, looks like this. It would be great to fill in the blanks, maybe post in the Knowledge Vault?
