Pro's con's?? Experiences etc?
Also has anyone tried the power tube kit that you can get for it?? Would be putting it on an S1W. I had a flatslide carb on my race SV650 so I know how well it worked on that bike.

Excellent carbs, I've run them on several bikes, currently have one on my 94 Road King that's been on there, virtually untouched, since about 1995. Dependable as a hammer. Easy to tune. No issues ever.

Had one on my '91 RS that had the Aerocharger turbo. (see profile for pic) Carb was specially mod'd to handle high intake pressure from blow-through turbo unit. Again no issues, ran like a scalded dog.

Several friends have them with excellent reviews.

The only 'con' I can think of is when compared to the stock CV carbs - they self adjust to altitude changes, where the Mikuni will go rich if you get into higher elevations than where the bike was originally jetted, and vice versa.

There's guys out there that get great results re-working the stock CV units, which might be an option if budget is a factor.

Not sure what the "power tube" is that you mention, unless it's the one Yost sells. I've never use one, maybe someone else will chime in that has. I think those are like the secondaries on a big Holley 4 barrel - dumps a big squirt of raw fuel down the throat of the carb when opened up big-time.
Great for acceleration, not so much for MPG's

Nice RS Leftcoastal. Bet that thing runs good. I also have ported and polished heads on my S1W and an Andrews N9 cam with a dyna tek ignition. Just thought with what I already have that the upgraded carb would definitely compliment the engine well.

You will love it, get it dyno jetted and tuned.

APPROVED. My opinion - best carb out there. With a good dyne tune on it you just won't believe it. I used to run the 40mm version (hard to find these days) on a 74" Knuckle as well - that was a great carb except the knuckle vacuum was so high that it would suck the slide open about 2 seconds after first returning to idle from half throttle or better. Disconcerting on a jockey shift, suicide clutch bike.

Corrective action was to slam your leg over the open V-stack that I ran - that would great the suction, the slide would drop, and she would idle normally.

That olde girl would chirp the tire on the shift into 4th! A hard launch would always be a smoky burnout, thanks to a combination of that carb and the worlds most unforgiving clutch. She also started first kick EVERY time thanks to the accelerator pump and was known to outrun 80" Evos.

Rhonda sports a 42MM now, with dyno tuning from JT+S and all the other work she's had done, she is an unbelievable performer . I don't think you could make a better carb choice - Gloria will have one too once I sort out an intake manifold.

Have one on each bike. No comparison to the CV.

Even a CV that's been reworked...

Probably depends on what your after. I keep a CV on Veronica because, as stated, those CVs correct well for altitude changes and Veronica is set up for long distance touring. Two weeks ago she literally went from 9000 ft (Tioga pass) to -212 ft (Death Valley) in a 12 hour period and ran great in both places. Like the stock muffler she sports, the CV is a great touring choice.

But if I just want to go FAST, and do it QUICK, Rhonda will always get the nod - in no small part due to the Mikuni/Race Exhaust combo she sports.

I never had any problems when I took my FXR on a trip. From mountains, to sea level and everything in between, the bike never skipped a beat because of the Mikuni. Didn't skip a beat, period.

I have both and each is best - in its own way.

Both can make excellent power on a stock or slightly modified motor. They just deliver it differently.

If you are building a hot rod and want immediate throttle response, the HSR 42 is excellent.

If you are building a rider-friendly street bike and want smooth power delivery, a rejetted CV40 is supreme.

If you want smooth delivery with a Mikuni, learn how turn the throttle smoothly...

Not a problem here Beardo. I roadraced for 7 years in WERA and AMA supersport. I had a flatslide carb on my SV650 I raced in WERA lightweight twins superbike along with a quick turn throttle. Great set up. These engines are a total different beast and just curious on people opinions. My S1W will be a fun local rip around bike so with the mild engine work I think Iam going to get the Mikuni.

Mikuni 42 is the best set-up I've had so far. Through a lot of trial/error and dyno time I've made a CV-40 work well, and though it's kinda cool to hold it wide open through the gears, and the peak numbers were good for a mild engine, the throttle response was nothing like the Mikuni. It needed little more out of the box than moving the needle a position or two.
