Diesel, I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying 1440 can be reliable as a stock 1200 despite your experiences.

RULE OF THUMB: you build your engine to preform in the RPM range you ride !!!

Exactly the way to do it!

I thought the "Rule of Thumb" dictates the size of the rod a man is allowed to strike his wife with...

That is RIGHT, if the CYLINDERS and "RODS" were longer the skirts on the PISTONS could be longer, therefore no piston noise !!!

That head will be fine to use for which ever choice you go with...they would need to be upgraded for either piston choice anyway...

Sorry Guys,
Ive been working like a silly man.

I was riding it a few weeks ago, and she just died while doing 80mph on the interstate.

Granted, it has alot of miles on her, and i never babied this bike AT ALL in the 16 years i've owned it.

I am not surprised, shocked, or saddened that this happened.

Im actually surprised it lasted this long. lol

I have to get the motor out of the bike soon. My free time to work on it has been very limited lately.

My plan is 1250 from Nallin, send them the heads to clean up, and maybe a set of cams.

Also going to get the cam cover cut. I've wanted to do that since 2000...lol

Stay tuned...as the tear down/rebuild commences, i'll post pics of the progress.

Fwiw I blew a ring in the stock s1 motor, and upgraded to 1250 jugs/piston and some stage 3 Nrhs ported XB heads. With the billet mount.

Wow. Really woke the motor up. Went from ringing it out all the time to doing wheelies by accident. Had to relearn how to get on the throttle. Handling felt the same except have to be more careful coming out of the turn, more lean with more tq!

Im still on stock cams and carb (well the carb has been tuned well)

I suspect I have a lot of power to still be had especially up top, that's being hindered by cams and the stock size carb. But to be honest? Not sure if I need any more power, it's already crushing stock xb12's in the straights. But it's good to know I have room to grow.

Got the heads at a steal from a friends drag bike, they are way over ported, I'm probably loosing tq with them
The engine feels the same down low but has killer mid range.
If I built the motor again I'd go xb12/TS heads with a stage 1 port job, 1250, and stock cams.

If I was wanting more power then I have now I'd add maybe some Nrhs cat4 cams and a bigger carb. That's what's on my future upgrade list when I'm ready.
