Strange one this cannot clearly discribe whats happening.Randomly when I take off in first gear it feels like the gear is missing some teeth then it is fine for the rest of the ride.It does this sometimes and sometimes not and only once per ride and always after it has been idling in neutral for a while.
It also feels like the primary chain is jumping some teeth. The primary is a little loose but have not had time to adjust it yet.
It has one of those after market clutch ramps that lightens up the clutch lever pressure and I am a bit suspect about that item more than anything else.
any suggestions?

So long as your main drive belt is properly adjusted, you may be looking at a slipping clutch. The aftermarket ramp might suggest that work has been done in that area, but you should research the term "Grenade Plate" on this board. There is a 2 piece plate in the center of the clutch pack that can cause symptoms such as yours.

It could also just need re-adjusting, but these clutches usually only need to be set once.

this is the after market clutch thing.

Thanks I will read up on the grenade clutch.!

My original 99 X1 was flogged without mercy for 5 years and the clutch never gave a problem....ignorance is bliss .

I had my belt too scary loose and it was hopping teeth. I just made it slightly less scary loose.

BTW, my grenade plate lasted 50,000 miles.
Mine acted like it was dragging and refused to allow me to adjust it to where it worked right.

I have been having similar issue with my x1, a recent inspection shows only bright edges on the first gear pair,

the clutch probably needs adjustment or plate replacement, you can inspect the gear box by taking off the primary cover and using a mirror and strong flash light see the first gear / second gear pairs clearly

If you wish to deal with the
"grenade plate" you need 2 steel and one fiber plate,

at 50K miles my fiber plates were still with in spec for a stack of 8,

so belt and clutch adjust get my nodd.
good luck

X1, you've not updated the thread re your own clutch failings despite some asking, yet here you are giving advice for a similar issue.

I assume by your previous post in your thread you did spit your dummy out, and not just with your Buell.

I'll continue to offer advice and try help other Buellers where possible, despite the selfish attitudes of some. Not pointing fingers of course. Just saying

Worn dogs on the gear pair can cause this issue as well. I had that problem in 2nd gear on my X1. Gear replacement is pretty straightforward if you need to do it.

adjusted primary drive and clutch. No problem now so hopefully that's it.Could have been me being sloppy engaging first gear and not fully engaging it.
I had forgotten how the X1 vibrates so bad up to 3000rpm and then just goes Honda smooth from then on... "Crude old hammer"but fun to ride.

I'd bet on worn first gear dogs not quite engaging correctly it is quite a common problem, my X1 has done that for the last 30K miles
