Just curious what parts are worth hoarding and what parts can be sourced regularly (sportster parts ect). I need to pull my heads for a valve job, but that got me thinking that maybe I should pick up a set of heads. Got me thinking about the ECU, some body parts, etc. |

Looking at Ebay you can damn near build a tuber from the parts on there. I do notice how some parts are more expensive than others. |

You could build one from ebay parts would cost 10 grand in parts but yes it could be done. I would hoard parts that you want to keep original otherwise most can be made or modified to fit |

I can't think of anything that can't be replaced by either H-D, or retailers like asb and twin motorcycles. The parts on eBay will probably be around for another decade, as more and more 'relics' get parted out. (Especially how they are priced!) Hoarding isn't quite the same as 'accessorizing', like with ported heads, or elbow intake, race ignition etc. |

I'm in the UK so elsewhere in the world maybe different. Left and right side isolators are obsolete. I'm currently sourcing an FXR pair from Holland. Hope they do fit! Grumpy tells me fork oil seals are hard to source too, and I'm in need of a pair. These two items I would consider to be Buell specific and you'd really want new not used. Rocket in England |

Fork seals should be Showa-available. When sourcing parts, remember - Buell doesn't (didn't) build forks. Or shocks. Or wheelbearings. Or CV carbs. They bought 'em from suppliers. Suppliers who are still going strong, industry-wide, and have many many parts available if you take good measurements, photos, and get them information so they can find the correct replacement wear item for you. |

Yep understood, but apparently some Buell forks are not common Showa build thus the seals are Buell specific is my understanding. Rocket in England |

I just grabbed a set of Blazing Orange rims for my M2 ($479 and included the discs, rear pulley, tires, and shipping). I have had the PMs on it since 2002 when I bought it new. I do have 1 full extra set of bodywork for it as I don't believe that stuff will be available for ever and the prices are good on Ebay. I will say overall, tuber part prices have been creeping up since the last decade. Bodywork is pretty much the only thing I can think of that will continue to be difficult to find in the future. |

Try looking for something as simple as an oil tank for a tuber. HD has them as obsolete, and American Sport Bike wants $600. for the aluminum unit. I searched everywhere I could find and had to settle for used on ebay. These plastic tanks will fail. Hairline cracks at connections. Hell I can pick and choose where to get a tank for my 74' Triumph. |

Yah, plastics are vulnerable parts, pretty hard to replace those. I'm looking for an extra fairing, chin fairing and front fender, I have an extra tail already. Oil tank...maybe a good idea too. |

Hey Mr Rocket, if you have Showas, the seals are well easy to get hold of: http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=225989# p225989 |

Oh, sorry, from the thread title, I assumed this was a support group. Hello, my name is Jeff, and I'm an impulsive tuber parts hoarder. My triggers are ebay, and the parts for sale section of badweb. |

Just be careful, I started hoarding tuber parts a couple of years ago and I think I have hoarded enough stuff to put another X1 together.....Thats going to mean another mouth to feed and no spare parts! Honestly, anything that isn't sportster I try to find a spare or two of, especially body work. |

I started "collecting" Buell S1 parts..."hoarding" has such a negative connotation....body parts are the hardest to track down, so it made sense to "collect" those pieces... |

Cool Mr Rocket, in which case you have WPs unless you have fitted the later forks... The tuber (X1 and S3) Showas are 41mm and use the same seals as early XBs. The M2 forks use the same seals as later post 2005 XBs (43mm)... Bit of a generalisation cos Scg had 41mm for all years and XB12X had 47mm post 2008. |

Mr Rocket has (40mm) WPs, or he did a few months back... http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=235437# p235437 WP UK won't supply you seals. HD will though... |

I'm still around...I've sold a lot earlier this year and don't think I put much of a dent in it. May be time to inventory and sell more. I have a bug for some Class 3 NFA firearms now and need a way to fund it. |

Aye WP's on mine. Will get around to them seals this winter. Meanwhile I'm still waiting for a delivery of two rear isolators from Holland for an FXR. Apparently they're out of stock to the supplier in Clog Land and awaiting delivery from HD Stateside. When I'll get them is anybody's guess it seems right now. Without them the Buell is not rideable! No prob. Winter is coming fast over here. Rocket in England |

Those used to be used at the rear (same as the H-D touring bikes) but were discontinued by Buell due to durability problems. The FXR has removable plates that may make it look like the front iso. |

I'd appreciate some help here to be honest. I've ordered through a friends Harley shop (not main agent) a pair of isolators from a custom catalogue type supplier (I don't know which) based in Holland who buy direct from the USA.I believe they buy direct from HD but may be wrong on this. Anyway, looking back at one of LaFayette's older posts on the subject http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/3 15871.html?1195065810 these numbers I'm told cross reference to the current iso's sold by HD for FXR's though I can't confirm they are the same numbers, but they may be. RIGHT REAR ISOLATOR L0505.9R LEFT REAR ISOLATOR L0504.9L If anyone can shed more on available iso's then please do as I've spotted these on eBay and am considering canceling my Dutch route and ordering these asap though I have no idea if they're the same as I'm looking at from Holland, or if they're the same as the HD FXR ones (they could well be all the same) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281172794519?ssPageName= STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Rocket in England |
