Does anyone know if the XB9R forks will slot into the X1 triple tree?
What I'm thinking of doing is using XB9 forks on my X1 and keeping the X1 wheel as well.
I suppose some machine work would have to be done on the sliders to use the stock X1 axle (line bore it and have aluminum spacers/inserts made).
The X1 is 54mm, if my Ulysses is any indication it won't work.
Is the XB9 O.D. 54mm?

The axle is also bigger on the XB so it wont fit through the bearings on the X1

Why would you want to swap the forks and not keep the xb wheel?

I would keep the stock axle and wheels primarily for looks so it matches the rear wheel.
Does anyone have an XB9 fork they could measure?

My question was geared more towards what you intend to gain over the regular x1 forks.

It looks like the preload adjusters are what will give me grief if I try and retain the X1 top clamp.
I'm trying to decide if I go with more sophisticated forks or update the guts of the stock ones.

Seems like a lot of work for not much gain. Rebuilding the X1 forks with internals that make you happy would be a better solution IMO. Or, use the entire XB front end and get some spacers so you can also use an XB rear wheel, giving you the ZTL brake and a much lighter front wheel in the process...while still matching each other.

I want to keep this bike looking mostly stock so it looks like the Race Tech components will be the way to go.
Race Tech says that while their springs are stiffer than stock they're also shorter which will make for a more compliant ride.

you would have to come up with a way to mount your X1 caliper as well.... I would stick with the X1 forks and upgrade the internals!!!

I forgot about that part but the fellow who I would have do the work could make the adaptor easily enough. He's one of these Mr. Wizard types. He's really quite something.

It's funny, I was always so concerned about unsprung weight with the Guzzis and here I am wanting to stick with the heavy wheels because of the looks.

I spent a couple of hours today and ended up going with the factory recommendation for the fork oil level, used 5W Kal Gard Smooth stroke and the forks actually move when you hit a bump.
It now feels just like my first X1W.
Now I've just got to do something about that stupid shock. I don't think that they ever limber up.
Who here has replaced the spring in the shock on the stock Showa? I'm guessing the cover is threaded on?
I've got a monster Progressive Suspension shock spring compressor so if I can get the cover off I should be able to swap out the spring.
