I have an old transmission/scissor jack for a car, so that's what I use to change Isolators. That coupled with having the frame hanging from the I-beam in my basement makes it a relatively easy job.

You're doing the rear, I take it.
You have to lift up the rear of the frame

This is what works for me:
have bike on front and rear wheel stands
loosely install isolators
prop up back of frame with long board or attach to rafter with a tie down
adjust height of frame, hold up plates so screws holes line up and rotate isolator until pin lines up
loosely affix plates
torque isolators
torque plates
button up the rest of the stuff

They can be a wrestling match eh? Right of passage for an S2 owner. Be proud!
A suggestion, use a bit of Loctite blue on the threads but only a TINY amount.
Do not get any on the taper part of the countersink. Then use a bit of antisieze on the taper part.
Next time you change the iso's or remove the side plate to change a belt you will thank me..

Do you need to remove the rear isolators when replacing the primary tensioner on an S2? Just wondering.

IMHO, "i" would have PRODUCT IMPROVED the left isolator plate by notching it until "i" could get the primary chain cover off if possible ...
