I bought this S1 buell over the winter and hadn't ridden it yet.. till now and darn think has fresh gas But I choose to put 94 and a touch of seafoam in it. now it has a ping on the top end on the highway especially on roll on Timing seems okay ,I am at 3200 feet above sea lvl hot days lately 28c . Are these supposed to run less octane ?

High octane, that's what helps keep it from pinging worse.

Might want to try and clean up the carb. Once you get in there tell us what size the jets are, 195 and 45's are generally accepted to be appropriate, though some use a 190 for different elevations and intake/exhaust options.

Could maybe be an intake seal leak too.

I use premium 93 in mine with no problems. But I have FI so it may not be a good comparison. I bet you'll get more pinging if you run 87.

It should have H-D 10R12 or equivalent heat range spark plugs. Plugs hotter than those can cause pinging under load.

Roxx, venting the crank to air or a vented catch can is preferred.

Plugs I've got are iridium I had for the XB, 10R12X's, would be fine in the tuber motor I think. HD part number is 27794-08, sorry I haven't got the pn for the standard 10R12's.

According to my owners manual we should be running at least 91 octane. That is for my 99 with (standard) Thunderstorm heads, since the 96 had a different head, maybe compression wasn't as high and mid-grade is okay? Wonder if maybe Tl is running a bit rich so the mid-grade is fine in his engine for that reason also...
