Well ... I posted in the knowledge vault to try and irk some ideas out of anyone who would know more about the wiring of an S1 than myself ... Turns out I've got a real headscratcher I guess ...

Soooo .... Let's try this again ...

My '98 S1 was adapted to a single fire ignition system at some point before I bought it ... and since i've got it I've managed to get the carbs working great; it will crank, rev, and idle absolutely perfect in gear or out of gear, doesn't matter ... however, When I put the bike in gear and go to release the clutch the bike's ignition will cut out and it will die even if you have it revved up ... I was leaning towards any of the interlock switches being the culprit but... the side stand switch has been bypassed ... and I bypassed the clutch interlock switch myself ... the neutral switch works just fine .... any ideas? ... the bike only has 3800 miles on it ... i've been staring at wiring diagrams for a few days now but i'm honestly baffled ....... i have no idea what's going on ... it's like the ignition loses it's ground or power when you release the clutch .... and it doesn't seem to matter whether the clutch switch is plugged in or not ...

Carb** ... haha

I took it off and mimicked a youtube video for cleaning an M2's carburetor ... This bike had been sitting still for very long time before I picked it up ...

If it's not too much trouble..wire the ignition to it's very own power source switch..??

Maybe the side-stand switch has wiggled un-bypassed? Isn't there a starter cut-out?
That's a good one alright.

Also doublecheck your clutch interlock switch. Sounds a lot like one of those two...

I had an issue with my side stand switch, its like instant death to the motor and even if you pull the clutch back in immediately you cant stop the motor from dying. I am no expert in wiring, but I normally solder and use heat shrink if its going to be permanent... but one thing I hate is buying a bike from someone who knows even less than me on properly wiring up connections. I would start with the one you didn't do yourself first. if you did the clutch by pass...go back and check the side stand....just from the little bit you wrote it sounds like its in the side stand to me or one of the safety switches to me.

Good news reported in the parallel thread in the Knowledge Vault. Was a marginal ground with the Ign relay circuit. Problem solved.

I had a smart guy tell me that 70% of all electrical problems are a ground issue, its proved itself over and over again....glad to hear it was a simple and inexpensive fix!
