Ok, so I have about 750 miles on this shock and promised Sandro to do a review quite some time ago. Too many projects and not enough time.

Anyhow, here are my abbreviated thoughts. This is a good shock for middle of the road, as in, it's far better than any stock shock the tubers came with. I've been on the WPs and all of the Showas. This is a better performing shock, hands down. With that being said, if you have a track bike, you would be better off spending the extra dollars for a Penske.

So, road bikes will benefit from the Twin shock greatly. That's my .02 cents.

Oh and btw, it's mounted on my 96 S1. No bob and weave what's so ever...

Sounds like they hit the target they were aiming for then, as they have said this shock was developed as a replacement for OEM, not a specialty, high performance shock.

Nice to know it will be an upgrade from even a properly performing Showa.

do you make them for all the tubers? S2, S3, X1, S1? I have one of each and I think the shock on my S2 is shot...havnt ridden the bike yet but my buddy that is holding it for me know says its leaking.....I know, possibly sacrilege to place a non stock shock on something so rare as a an S2...but......I want to RIDE this thing! my "guess" is there are probably only three different sizes? maybe two?

Yea they do jolly if you follow the link and scroll down it will say twin motorcycle shock for tubers make sure you pick the correct length though there are 2 to choose from I believe.

Direct to the 14.9"- http://www.5-0dro.com/index.php/specials/twin-moto rcycles-tube-rear-shock-38-detail

Direct to the 16.5- http://www.5-0dro.com/index.php/specials/twin-moto rcycles-tube-rear-shock-42-detail
Those should help but please make sure you read the entire item description and triple check the length on the one you need If you don't know I'm sure someone here can tell you off the top of there head.
Good luck have fun,
Travis

Jolly, stock length for the S2 is 16.5, same as my S1. I was actually going to swap my TM shock over to my S2 before getting a wild spur up my ass. I suspect the shock would perform even better with the added weight of the S2.

While the stock shock was different on the S2s compared to the later models, for aftermarket shocks you just go by length, and that can be changed by changing the front mount.

My S2 came with a later 14.8" stock Showa on it from the PO, and is getting it's new Penske installed this week.

If yours is the original, exposed spring WP unit with reservoir, and you are in the weight class that shock was sprung for (I've read 165-175lbs) Then it WOULD be really cool to rebuild and run it. At the minimum, don't sell or trash that stock shock, hang it in the garage n case you ever decide to restore the bike.

If it already got switched out for a covered spring Showa during the recall, well, then you are released from your obligation as an S2 owner to preserve it in my opinion.

Thanks for providing that info Travis. You're right on! If I'n not mistaken, there was some variation in length even within a given model so triple checking the length is key. We can't take returns on these products for mis-ordering since they're shipped from Europe and we don't stock them at this time.

Thanks! ; )

No problem I always believe in triple checking anything you buy off the Internet for that very reason. And alot of the times the description is very vague. I will say though that shock looks awsome(love the open shock look) and your description of everything on your website is very detailed I found a new place to shop thank you sir lol

Question since we are on the topic of shocks say if I had the 16.5 on my bike could I buy a 14.9 and put it on my bike? Would it raise the stance of it/lower the wheel base by a inch or so?

That's a good question...I'd have to ask my friends at TM about that to be sure. Maybe some of the Tuber experts here could chime in on that in the meantime?

On mine I've got what looks like a safety strap to keep from bottoming out which I understand but my curiosity is definitely peaked about going to a slower length shock

That's the same idea as the lowering kits for Softails...extending the shock lowers the bike.

Putting a 14.9 on a bike with the 16.5 would raise it, the opposite would lower it.

There is a little black art though, in that spring rates are determined by several key dimensions, and changing those around would make those formulas come out a bit different. Definitely solvable, but I'm not the guy who's going to.

Just a heads up about the TM shock. Ride height is adjustable a bit. The eyelet on the swingarm side of the shock is threaded. No, you aren't going to jack up the ass end 12 inches, but has more than enough adjustment to suite many different riders and their set-ups.

"On mine I've got what looks like a safety strap to keep from bottoming."

It sounds like you have one of those pre-recall shocks with the retrofit kit. If that's the case, you may want to have the dealer check your VIN to see if you (still) qualify for a shock replacement under the recall program. They replaced mine with a brand new shock a few weeks ago when I dropped off my bike to get new tires mounted. Strangely enough, they had already replaced it once before under the recall five years ago but apparently they lost the paperwork...I certainly did not complain.

We heard back from TM on using a a longer/shorter shock to adjust ride height. They advise against it as the change would be too drastic and would likely cause other interference etc.

I'll be installing the TM shock onto my S2 and should have better insight to this shock. If you look on TMs website, the pictures they have of the R&D process, take place on an S2.

How many Tubers do you have Beardo?!?!?!? ; ) I've had my eyes on an S1 that's local to me but it's hard to justify the expense. Haha

Thanks for keeping us updated!
