I have bought a chin fairing for my S3 and need mounting instructions/diagram and the parts list/diagram. Does anyone know where that info would be on BWB or can someone post them or send them to me in a PM?

If anyone has the parts that they're willing to part with, I am in need of all the mounting hardware.

Thanx for the help!

Personally, I would avoid adding that thing.
My X1's fairing would rattle and chafe up against the clutch cable.

I took mine off some time ago so I can't really be a help to you other than there are two large aluminum spacers that go between the fairing and the primary.
They require long screws to go all the way into the primary.
(Mine leaked even with the O-rings)
I can't remember the right side mounting.

In the front, there was NOTHING to hold it up. That's why it rattled so much.
Also, it was right behind the front wheel so as soon as you drove it out of the driveway, it was dirty.

Can you tell how much I hated mine?
Sorry if this turned into more of a rant than a how-to guide.

Well, I got it for $50 and its already nuclear blue, which matches my frame. If I put it on and don't like it, I haven't lost a whole lot. I do like the way they look on an S3, so I bought it.

Too bad you're not near by. We could swap the primary screws.
I looked down at my bike today and saw that I still had the long screws and spacers sticking out.
I think there is supposed to be some sort of third mounting that's not quite in the front where it needs to be.
I'll get back you if I figure it out. It's been a few years since I made the cut.

There's a bracket with a wellnut on the front right hand.
If you put a fair amount of pipe sealant on the bolts on the l/h side you can keep the leaking in check.

I may have the mounting instructions in my buell articles file at home.

I can make a copy and mail it to you...cannot scan, broken scanner or missing drivers I can't locate on the internet.

I'll have a look at what I have in the next day or so as I have to remove it off the S3 to service the bike. .

There is a bracket that comes off the shock mount on the front right.

It should be very solid if properly mounted. As for the clutch cable chafing, mine lies right above the fairing. Haven't had any problems. YMMV

The front bracket changed with the longer shock, so the alignment moved about a quarter-inch. So my first front bracket broke after I sort of twisted to make it fit. Replacement seems to work without that, so got lucky on the second one. The 2 spacers on the right are about half inch long aluminum tubes, necked down on the inner side that goes into the Drive Support. I'd wager one could buy then right from McMaster Carr, if we had precise measurements of one. The left side, I have 'surplus' bolts for a Banke shifter setup, again, just hardware store...well, hardware, and the instructions even put the sizes, but I can get the size if you need it. As I recall, with the Banke shifter, there's nothing special about the left side, just longer bolts. The right side has the same longer bolts, plus two little spacer deals. If you have a stock shift/brake, all bets are off. And my clutch cable did wear off an inch or two of paint on the top lip of the left side of the chin fairing, but I put a precise amount of some clear packing tape over it, further damage seems arrested.

My clutch cable used to chafe. I built a little stand-off that attaches to one of the primary cover bolts. It holds the cable out a bit, so it no longer touches the fairing.

Interestingly enough, my dealer (assumption) had applied a transparent film on the fairing where the cable was touching prior to me taking delivery. I guess they saw it coming. I thought it was factory, but mine is the only one I've seen that had it.

There is a piece of mylar, I think, that is suppose to go of the fairing where the clutch cable rides. I have seen it on several fairings and it came with my NOS fairing as well. If you need the spacers for the right side, I believe I have an extra set of those. They kind of press into the support bracket.

OK my mistake. The left side of my bike had Banke shifter for M2. I had to get an X-1 mount, that is in two parts, split for the chin fairing. That might be hard to find now. If not Banke, I don't know what is there.

Banke very recently made a batch of X1 shifters. You may be able to call and get the parts you need, since they may have made a few spares while they were at it. Conjecture on my part of course.

And I mean very recently.

On the right hand side it attaches in back with the smaller bolts holding the metal piece over the front pulley that says "buell" on it (can't think of what that piece is called right now). It also is attached with a 90ish degree bracket to the front shock eyelet bolt. If you have a penske (or maybe another after-market shock) the bracket will have to modified a bit (at least mine needs to be).

My fender also came with the clear plastic protector over the clutch cable rub spot. 2000 X1

I too am a fan of no chin spoiler, in fact the only plastics I've been running on my bike lately is the flyscreen and mostly because I'm too lazy to make a new gauge holder, lol.

LOL that clear strip of mylar protects the paint.
The cable on the other hand, rubs through and leaks.

Wow, 14d, what did you use to replace the Gas Tank, Oil Tank, pulley cover, and maybe turn signal stalks ?

Point being, plastic is useful and appropriate, for some things. M2 has a plastic tail fairing, and inner rear fender too.

Chin fairing is just aesthetics, not like it has any function; but look at a Britten with one or without one...
On my bike, at least, seems like it really balances out the look, the line of color mirrors the upsweep of the tail fairing. I'm very pleased its so "easy" to get a color-matched one for M2. I don't think the carbon-fiber-colored ones add nearly as much...
