Well I am going to paint my case/heads with the HD black wrinkle engine enamel that comes from the dealership. Any suggestions from those that have painted their motors on the best way to get everything all nice and clean and prepped before paint? Should I go over everything with a light sanding first? With the HD engine paint there is no primer used right? Also, for anyone who painted their motor, how did you go about painting the bottom and getting it back in without scratching it? (my motor is out of the bike) Thanks, Spencer |

I've done a couple of these... Just grease/wax remover or paint solvent to make sure there's no oil or grease on there. Make sure you're even with your spraying or your wrinkle may be uneven. Thicker paint = more wrinkle. No primer, light sand isn't a bad idea, get's rid of any oxidisation of the ally. The green scouring pads work well. I have some large pieces of leather that I tape around things I don't want to get knocked like tanks and newly painted motors. I've gotta touch up an X1 motor and then put it into my sporty shortly too. |

Use an engine stand stand and place the frame on the motor. You can place a towel between the engine and the stand to prevent scratching.
