I'm buying a 99 X1 tomorrow and I'm not sure if I want to keep the induction as is or not. The guy had it converted to a Makuni (sp?) carb since he was told the stock fuel injection sucked. I have everything but the intake manifold that I'd need to convert it back to stock fuel injection. If I do I'll throw the carb on my Sportster. Which would be a better route to go? If there are other options worth mentioning send those my way as well...

Buell FI can run too lean in stock form but it can be very good with a Race Module.

A Mikuni HSR42 carb can work very well too.

If you can use ECM Spy or if you can get a Race Module, keep the FI.

Otherwise, you can't go wrong with the Mikuni.

I'd say stick with the Mikuni. Overseas it is considered one of the must-do's on FI tubers if you have the change.

Personally, I would prefer the F.I. but if the carb is already installed and sorted, I say stick with it.

Personally, I love the looks of the stock airbox on our X1s. I also prefer F.I.

Since you have a bike that you can put the carbs on, I'd say do that, and return the X1 to stock.

In the UK very few people would recommend replacing the fuel injection with a carb so i'd say put back to standard.

I converted my S3 to a carb and am completely happy with it. If it is running good with the carb on it I would leave it

Well it seems like it's a mixed feeling from the group. I'll see just how well the bike runs as is but I may just swap it out and see which I like best. I'm sure I'll be fine using ECM Spy if it's like other tuning software I've used in the past...
